is the location safe? driving through i noticed it is about a 1 minute drive from the notoriously dangerous, drug and gun ridden intersection of jane and finch. The campus buildings residence and apartments were beautiful, then 100 meters off campus is jane st. and run down apartments where balconies are halfway fallen down.
can any york students clarify how big of a concern safety is here? also what have you guys thought about the surrounding neighbourhood?
are guns and drugs really that prevalent or is the reputation maybe a tad unfounded?
thanks for any help or feedback.

Re: location of york university
If you are talking about York as in Osgoode Hall, the area is relatively safe. The only thing I know about York is that it is surrounded by somewhat sketchy area, but then again the campus is huge. A lot of my high school friends went to York for undergrad, and no one seemed to complain about the safety issues. Despite the whole media's portrayal of Jane & Finch being dangerous, it is very safe compared to some of the so called, "most dangerous" cities in the US. Canada's ghetto is like a middle class area compared to ghettos in the US.
