What do you think of Widener Law School?
Is it worth attending? I am still in my UG, but I am starting to research law schools and Widener is near my house. My GPA is above their median, but I am still interested. What do you think?

I don't know anything from personal experience, but I do know someone from my UG who is going into 2L there. He seems to be enjoying it. If you're interested in asking him some questions about Widener (Wilmington campus, that is), PM me, and I'll give you his e-mail address, I'm sure he'd be happy to help you out.
Let's just say my UG isn't great at producing marvelous LSAT scores (my 164 is the second best in three years, so take from that what you will), so we've sent a few people to Widener. From what my pre-law adviser says, people really do seem to enjoy themselves there. Once you get past the whole "OMG IT'S TIER THREE!" thing, I'm sure you'll still get a decent education, especially if you're looking to stay local for work, as well.
Anyway, I think deciding on any school is a matter of creating a list of priorities. It seems like staying close to home is a clear priority for you. If that is #1, then I would say you should consider it (of course, re-think all of this after you take the LSAT). However, if you have some of the "loftier" ambitions often associated with law school ("Big Law," big money right out of school, clerkships, etc.), I would say you may be headed in the wrong direction. But Hell, I'm not even a senior in college yet, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
Again, if you want to talk to someone who knows what he's talking about, PM me, and I'll give you my buddy's e-mail address; he's a very nice guy, and will answer all of your questions in detail.

Edit. delete outdated info. My opinion of Widener has skyrocketed over the past three years as I've gotten to know both grads and the way it is tied into the Delaware legal community.

For anyone still looking at this thread, the bar passage rate for July 09 at Harrisburg for PA bar was 94.32% according to Widener's website....

Sorry I was searching and this was the first hit, thought it would be useful for anyone who was searching as well.
Didn't know that 3 year old posts were not worth responding, wonder why they don't remove them after being inactive for 3 years then?

Re: What do you think of Widener Law School?
I'm in my 3rd semester at WUSL-DE. Grade deflation is the biggest issue. Small 4th tier schools are plagued by grade deflation. We work harder for the same grades as higher ranked schools because the curve is so low. The curve for 1L's is something like a 2.3-2.69, which is insane. My friends at Temple Law had a 1L curve of 2.7-2.9 and over a 3.0 for 2L and 3L. Widener NEVER gets above a 3.0 curve.
Grade deflation is one of the tools WUSL uses to slash the 1L class by 1/3 for the 2L year. If you make that cut chances are you'll graduate. Widener's party line on the intentional cut is they give people a chance to prove themselves that other schools turn away. Ok. But it's also a fact that those 1/3 ( about 100 ppl) spend about $55,000, minimum, for that wasted year. Money that is typically borrowed and needs to be paid back starting almost immediately upon withdrawal from school. Seems like a cash-cow to me.
So, if WUSL is the only law school you get into beware. You have a 1/3 chance of getting the boot.

Why are you reviving a thread from 2007? It is likely this person is out of school by now.lawmom2012 wrote:I'm in my 3rd semester at WUSL-DE. Grade deflation is the biggest issue. Leave him alone. He is obviously trying hard to grace the TLS community with an insightful post. FWIW, I know a white kid who was a rapper, went to Widener and got robbed numerous times. He is no longer a rapper.DeeCee wrote:Why are you reviving a thread from 2007? It is likely this person is out of school by now.lawmom2012 wrote:I'm in my 3rd semester at WUSL-DE. Just sayin' I think this thread has long died. However, discussing Widener prospects could be interesting since I know nothing about the school except for that they have a horrendous curve and are T3/T4.

Ex-gf goes to Widener. it is the epitome of the regional TTTT. If you want to stay in Delaware and can find a way to excel against the curve, do it. But she knew 6 people who got the boot. It is not a fun experience apparently. Buyer beware.

Lol Asher Roth is a (edited out), he performed at my undergrad and noone went. At least Asher Roth knows he is white though. This kid was like a sixteenth Puerto Rican and fronted like he was some gangsta. He had blonde hair and blue eyes. It was a real shame.r6_philly wrote:Asher Roth went to my UG. I actually think he switched from rapping, to doing some Ryan Leslie-ish pop music. Lol he has a myspace, I actually want to find it and post it up here.

It was said above that "Harrisburg for PA bar was 94.32% according to Widener's website...."Is it true?..How about Harrisburg issue of SPAM DELETED BY MODS.It has been said that,In 1980, new rules for municipal bankruptcy were submitted. Since then, 243 specific municipalities have filed for the security. This week, Harrisburg PA filed for bankruptcy protections. In spite of the fact the City Council voted for the filing, the mayor of the area is fighting the suit in court. The state has been threatening to take over Harrisburg, which the mayor and City Council have been working to prevent. By filing for bankruptcy, the city is effectively turning the entire mess over to the courts. When a judge decides the fate of the bankruptcy case, the judge will also effectively be deciding who has standing to make financial and debt decisions for and about the City of Harrisburg.
