Job Profile: Law Clerks are required to participate in a mandatory Direct Deposit program per Government Code Section 21207.5.

Law Clerks are required to be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check.

Law Clerks may be employed for a limited term of up to 30 months, with formal performance appraisals given at the 6-month and 18-month anniversary.

Other outside employment must be approved in advance.

Employment is "at will."

Selection Process

This is a competitive recruitment. All applications will be reviewed to identify the most competitive applicants. Only the most qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process.

A panel interview will be conducted by a Qualifications Appraisal Board to evaluate each applicant's education, training, experience, and general background in relation to the position's overall qualifications and requirements.

The Court reserves the right to modify the selection process in the interest of obtaining the best qualified candidates. All appointments are made "at will."

Prior to appointment, the successful applicant must pass a thorough background investigation and fingerprinting. The successful applicant will also be required to take a medical examination and have a drug screening test. The successful applicant will be required to provide proof of a valid California Class "C" driver's license prior to appointment.

The successful applicant will be required to take an oath or affirmation of office.

The Court reserves the right to verify all submitted documentation prior to appointment. In the event of a tie, the Human Resources Department may make the final selection.

The Court does not reimburse applicants for any travel or related expenses incurred in connection with the selection process.

Position Description

Join the Superior Court of California County of Los Angeles as a Law Clerk in the 3L Cohort 2025. This recruitment is intended only for current 3L students who are within six months of graduation. As part of a cohort, selected applicants will start their employment on September 2, 2025.

Priority consideration will be given to those who apply early.

Law Clerks are prohibited from practicing law, receiving legal fees, and representing a party as counsel during their employment with the Court. Any outside employment must be approved in advance. Employment with the Court is "at will."

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements at the time of application:

• Current enrollment in a Juris Doctor program at an accredited school of law, in good standing, and within six months of graduation (if selected, offer will be contingent upon proof of both graduation and eligibility to take the California Bar Examination).

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to conduct legal research independently, apply the law to the facts, and reach a sound, well-supported conclusion about the motion or other matter
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with judicial officers and others in the workplace
• Ability to manage competing priorities effectively and meet deadlines
