Introduction:
The #***# (LASMTC) is a private, non-profit organization that provides free legal services to individuals with low income. Our mission is to advance, defend, and enforce the legal rights of low-income and vulnerable people in order to secure the basic necessities of life. With 8 offices serving 48 Tennessee counties, we focus on 5 main areas of law practice: Family/Immigration, Health & Benefits, Consumer/Tax, Housing/Home Retention, and Employment.
Internship Opportunities:
LASMTC is currently inviting law students enrolled in accredited law schools to apply for our legal internship opportunities. We offer internships during the spring, summer, and fall terms. These internships provide valuable and hands-on experiences in our organization's daily operations, working alongside our attorneys and staff. We welcome fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and genuine enthusiasm for non-profit endeavors.
Paid Internships:
At LASMTC, we understand the impact of unpaid internships on racial and economic disparities within our communities. To address this issue, we have established a paid internship program for law students interested in pursuing a career in public interest law. Our paid internships aim to attract a diverse pool of talented and motivated law students who share our organization's mission.
Unpaid Internships:
We also offer unpaid internships for students who are interested in gaining experience and/or academic credit. These interns work on a volunteer basis.
Qualifications:
To be considered for an internship at LASMTC, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
- Enrolled in an accredited law program
- Strong dedication to public interest law, demonstrated through relevant experience and coursework
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
- Knowledge of foreign languages is a plus, but not mandatory
