Top Law Schools

Hi, my goal is big law in Texas or Florida. I currently live in Texas. I applied for Fall 2021 but was waitlisted from all my schools. These are my stats:

• 3.0 UGPA

• 171 LSAT from 2019

• 6+ yrs. work experience

• Mexican-American

• Volunteering

My list of schools:
1. Virginia
2. Northwestern
3. Cornell
4. Georgetown
5. Texas
6. Vanderbilt
7. WUSTL
8. USC
9. Notre Dame
10. Emory
11. Fordham
12. Boston College

A few questions:

• Does this list of schools seem adequate? Any I shouldn’t bother with?

• Should I try to write a GPA addendum to address my low GPA? I graduated a fair while back.

• Would it be worth trying to retake the LSAT?

The list of schools seems adequate so long as your goal is to just get admitted to one of those schools on the list (as opposed to getting a sizeable scholarship). You should definitely write a GPA addendum, so long as you have some sort of persuasive explanation for why your grades were low-ish in college and why they won't continue to be low-ish in law school. If you have the time, energy, and resources to invest in studying for one additional LSAT round, then you should re-take. 171 is a very good score, but with a low GPA your LSAT should be significantly above the 75th percentile for a shot at a T14. That means you should aim for 175+. But even if you re-take and get a 172, that will increase your chances. In the 170-175 range, every single point counts and could be the make or break.

You should add U of FL and FSU.
