chances top 20

Post by Warble » Mon Jul 06, 2020 5:10 am

appreciate some help///wondering about chances for top 14/20 and potential scholarships.

LSAT: 166
UGPA: 3.95
Non- URM

-Decent state school
-Completed a master's in a social science
- only short term research related work experience
-Planning on retaking but covid has made studying very difficult. Not sure how much of an increase is possible.

I really don't know how good a 166 is and whether my GPA would compensate with schools that have medians at 167/168/169. Advice on where to target and what to expect is appreciated. Not sure what my master's is worth either in the process, but those grades were just as high as uGPA. Thank you.

Check out mylsn.info. You'll definitely get in to SOME t14/20s but it's hard to say exactly which. Try to bump that up to at least a 168-170ish and you'll fare a lot better.

This myLSN output shows okay, but not awesome, chances at admission to most of the T14 (except the very top schools plus Penn and Duke), with good outcomes at the rest of the T20. As a reverse splitter, your cycle is likely to be somewhat unpredictable and weird, so I would apply broadly to maximize your chances at having a few good options.

Is there any school who specifically likes/ doesn't mind reverse splitters?

with a 172+ you are looking at $$$ in the T14. Completely worth retaking and even waiting a year

Disclaimer: I've seen a bunch of data on this but don't know if the school(s) actually have a policy of liking or tolerating reverse splitters. Generally, Chicago, Penn, and UVA tend to be more picky about GPA than rank-peers, and the fact that myLSN shows a pretty good shot at Chicago tracks with that. The myLSN output is based on a somewhat small sample, though, so take that as you will. I was surprised to see that Penn is orange on your output, but perhaps they are tightening their GPA range up.

Yep, when those two points touch (or traverse) a given school's median. Changes the adcomm's task from "why should we accept?" to "why shouldn't we accept?"
