Chances at Harvard and Columbia

So...
I have not taken the LSAT, but I plan to do an extensive amount of studying/prep work before I take it. I am aiming for 170+. However, before I undertake such a time- and money-consuming endeavor, I would like some input from others about my chances based on my background thus far.

Undergrad - Small state school, Political Science major and Philosophy minor, 3.68 GPA
Grad - UC Irvine, Masters of Public Policy, 3.87 GPA
Work History - city government as a policy adviser for 1 year, political campaign work (got to meet Obama) for one year, paralegal at two major law firms for the passed 3 years.

Even if I get 175 on the LSAT (which is unlikely) but at least a 170, how likely is HLS or Columbia given what I would consider a mediocre background?

Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks.

There's a huge difference between a 170 and a 175 on the LSAT when your GPA is below HLS's 25th%tile. So you really cannot make any really helpful predictions about your chances with a 3.68 and an lsat score that is maybe a 175 but at least a 170.

With that said, I would say not a great chance at HLS with your uGPA. <20% chance for sure. But if you can score a 172+ you should have a strong chance at CLS.

A few years ago I got into Harvard with a 3.72 and 176. So it’s not impossible.

yeah I have a 3.68 and I'm a 1L at HLS - it's not impossible, but your app will have to kick ass and you'll likely get waitlisted even with a solid LSAT. HLS waitlist does move though, esp in the beginning of the summer. it's just a question of how long you're willing to wait
