Non-traditional aspects:
1) Reapplying
2) Took a class at UChicago Law School. The grade is B- (slightly below median I assume)
3) Have a recommendation letter from the UChicago Law professor who taught that class
4) First generation college graduate

Other softs:
Running a startup investment company.

Submitted application by the end of November. Haven't heard from any school yet.

how big is the startup? it might not be enough to get you over the hump. seems like you're in for a rash of WLs and then maybe you can get one to bite. although it looks like if you do get in it will be at a significant cost.

The startup has only around ten people. We invest in local small vendors in exchange for their shares, and at the same time we improve these businesses by using our skills in financial statements analysis / market data analysis. Sort of like a very mini VC. I guess the only special thing about it is that we are in Chicago, and I sort of related this to the Innovation Clinic at UChicago Law in my why essay (potential client, etc.)

How about the effect of a slightly below median grade at UChicago Law and the recommendation letter from a tenured professor/alumnus there?

You will almost certainly pay sticker if you get into the T6 (which is less likely than not). Aim higher and by that I mean T14 w/ scholarships.
