163/3.3stem/URM Was waitlisted at 11 schools

This past cycle, I applied to 15+ law schools ranging from CCN down through T25. Of those, I was denied from 3 lower T14s. I was accepted to my undergrad university and waitlisted everywhere else. Schools ranging from T6 to T25 all waitlisted me. As of August 1st, I have received updates from schools only notifying me that I am still on their waitlist or made it past their cut or some variation. I have sent LOCIs to a few of the schools I am most interested in as well as LORs.
Some information:
Accounting major - working on CPA certification currently
Applied as a senior in undergrad and I am a year younger than my peers in age
Applications sent in early Jan
MA URM - Wrote a diversity statement to schools it was allowed
Retook the June LSAT and scored a 164 (Was PTing at 168-174 and had an atrocious RC section on test day. 70% of my wrong answers were from RC)
So now I come to TLS with the question: Am I going to be put into the same issue next year when I have acquired some work experience and applied earlier in the cycle? What went wrong in my cycle? What can I do to improve my application now that I'm no longer in undergrad? What happens if I take the LSAT a 3rd time and don't score substantially better?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: Was told Accounting is not STEM. My mistake. Google failed me on that one.
