Title says it all. Not really too concerned with money because of not having any debt through UG. Wondering how much my background will help out my mediocre lsat grade. My top options would be NYU, Penn, Berk, Georgetown, or UCLA.

The D1 Football captain thing probably won't make a big difference, but, as URM AA, you will almost definitely get into one or all of those schools you listed. You should also be looking at Harvard.

Any reasoning behind this? (not trying to attack, honest question)
I would think being a D1 athlete would be a legitimate soft for an application. I may be biased though.

My roommate in college thought this was going to be a great soft. He was a D1 football player (albeit not a captain) and had a LOR from the head coach (SMH). He is now at Charleston School of Law. He also had terrible numbers and is white.
Hmm. Kind of surprised but I guess not too surprised. Thanks for the info.

D1 football captain would be great OCI interview fodder though.

Yeah, the general consensus here seems to be that only extraordinary softs (professional athlete, Rhodes Scholar, Grammy winning musician, etc) will give a reliable bump. Outside of that, the value of a soft is much less predictable and will only come into play for borderline applicants. In this case, the applicant is a pretty likely admit everywhere except S and Y given his numbers and that he is AA, so his football soft is pretty much irrelevant.
And, yes, sports IS an advantage in getting jobs after school as the previous posters noted.

A lot of respect man. I was a college wrestler and could only dream of having that GPA. Good luck this cycle and I am sure you are going to have a lot of good options. I know you said you don't care about debt since you had a full ride for UG. If you retake though in February though and score a 165, you could be looking at some serious money from some of the lower T-14s.
