If not, could I attend Howard or SLU, as a white male with a shitty GPA?
Don't attend these school.
But also comment to say that I've talked to grads of Howard, only black student do well leaving Howard.

Here's the transfer out thread from WUSTL last year (I'm not suggesting you should go to WUSTL then transfer, but that it gives you some heads up about what is objectively even the best school that you listed, and also a dumpster fire)

Don't listen to what people say. 172 is an amazing score. My friend had a 3.0 GPA and a 169 got into GW Law with money a couple of years ago (when admissions was generally MUCH more selective). Schools seem to having trouble finding high LSAT applicants but not that much trouble finding high-GPA candidates. I honestly think you'll be fine.
Also, what the person above said about Howard isn't true at all. I have 2 attorneys in my section at the Department of Justice that graduated from
Howard Law and they're both not African American.

I would apply to all of the bottom T14 with that LSAT the very first day of the next admissions cycle. Your GPA is very concerning but 2+ years of work experience in law firms, along with two glowing LORs from your former employers, could help your "at least it went upward" case. You're so far ahead of the 75th percentile for most of their LSAT scores that they might be willing to overlook your poor grades if you apply early enough.

Yeah the partner at my DC firm was a white woman who graduated Howard 1990, gave me a little hope.
I'm sure you've done enough looking around the forum to find that law grads pre-2000 are a different genre than anything coming out of school today.
What are your goals, to work in similar firms that you've done paralegal time in?

Yes, that's understood.
No, I mainly want to work in civil rights. Maybe in-house for a non-profit or private public interest.
I'd love to start my own practice representing those who have been subject to housing discrimination, foreclosure defense, tenant rights, mortgage class-action, pretty much general real estate litigation.
Are any of those areas open to you through non-legal, have you considered founding/ working with non-profits in that area?

your chances are a lot better than you think with that lsat score. i don't know anything about the legal market in Louisiana but i would think if your smart enough to get a 172 you could probably pull off top 10% at LSU or Tulane. Tulane took a convicted murderer two years ago. 2.5 GPA > convicted murderer

You'll prob get into at least a few of them, but that's not my concern. Most of the areas you want to work in are either very hard to get, or don't pay well enough to repay student loan debt, which you'll have with that gpa

Have you considered Northwestern? That's an excellent option that is splitter friendly ( especially to those with WE)

This is objectively bad advice. While there is a mild correlation between LSAT and GPA, it certainly isn't enough to guarantee or nearly guarantee top 10%. Either go somewhere that you are happy with the prospects of a median/top 33% student, or don't go. Assuming that you'll be top 10% sets you up for catastrophic failure.
