First and only LSAT score: 174. LSAC GPA: 4.0x. K-JD, average to weak softs.

What I wrote above suggests that I should just plug my numbers into MyLSN.info and be done with it, but here are some questions you guys might be able to help me with:

I'm debt averse and looking for a large scholarship (preferably a full ride) to a good school. With this in mind,

1) Are there any schools in particular that I should target? Are there any T20 schools that are known to be especially generous with scholarship money?

2) Should I retake and try for a Hamilton / Ruby (if those still exist) or do my meh softs put those out of reach anyway? It sounds dumb to talk about retaking a 174 but I got a couple 179s on PTs and probably didn't study as hard as I could have.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You should apply to WUSTL. They are known to be very generous with scholarship money.

ED Northwestern.

Or even RD northwestern. You'll bet a big offer esp. after the big donation that just happened. This is the sort of applicant profile they will be going after aggressively.

I applied to WUSTL this cycle with good numbers but not as good as yours and received a full ride- also a K-JD student but my softs are rather strong

Do you think the ED advantage is worth potentially losing better offers?

I wouldn't ED NU w/ those numbers if you want a full-ride. Technically, their ED scholly isn't a full-ride, its 150k, and you lose out on a lot of other opportunities if accepted. MyLSN suggests you could get similar $$$ at UVA or Cornell without the ED commitment. Just my 2 cents.

Grats on the LSAT.

WUSTL? ED NU? What are these people even talking about? With these numbers you should be able to get a full ride at a t10 no problem, if not one of CCN. You should really polish the shit out of your "why X" essays though, because every school outside of the t6 will be wary about you just wanting to go somewhere higher ranked, even with a full ride.

Ok ok fair enough. OP just apply to WUSTL on down.

ETA but only after a retake of course, there's still 5 pts on the table!

Nah bro. It's cool. Read the OP and then read my post again.

I really wasn't trying to humble brag. I have debt from UG already and taking out loans for law school tuition terrifies me, no matter how good the school is. I'm dead set on a good scholarship, and I know those can require more than just high numbers.

So, because you might not get a full-ride from CCN, you're not going to make your application as strong as possible to those schools? That's stupid.

I feel like I'm missing something -- what's wrong with the OP's softs?

Regardless, just apply to every school you'd be excited to attend in the top 20. The marginal cost of a $100 application fee is dwarfed by the marginal benefit of potentially getting an extra $10,000 or so in aid from that school. You chances of getting a full scholarship somewhere in the T20 are very good (probably even if I'm missing something wrt your softs), and you never know re need aid at HYS.

By "full-ride" do you mean a tuition & fees scholarship ? My understanding is that a "full-ride scholarship" includes tuition, fees, books & a living expenses stipend. If you mean the latter, then I understand the reason for your post since so few true full-rides exist within the law school realm.

The most likely to offer true full-ride scholarships are those law schools which try to draw away students from Harvard and, to a lesser extent, Yale & Stanford. Chicago, Columbia, Penn & NYU should be target schools with Northwestern & any of the remaining T-14 which are of interest to you.

Do not ED Northwestern unless that is clearly your first choice law school.

Be careful, however, when considering law schools outside of the T-14 because that "full-ride scholarship" might end up being much more expensive than expected in terms of lost job/career opportunities. Remember, stellar numbers now do not assure equal success in law school. You, therefore, need to assess your law school options under the assumption that you will finish your first year at median.

Cornell is throwing money at people to try and get their numbers up. If you can write a convincing "why Cornell" essay, you should easily get a Charles Evan Hughes Scholarship. Tbf it's only full tuition, but it's a strong scholarship with a lot more job security than WUSTL.

Just apply to all T13. Your KJD/weak softs may hurt you for scholarships that look at softs/diversity at all (eg Ruby) but most don't so you should be fine for at least lower T14 full rides, if not Hamilton and Vanderbilt.

Charlottesville probably has the lowest CoL out of the T14.

I'm very interested in Cornell, so that's great to hear

You're getting soft hand. Can't say I'm not disappointed.

WUSTL? Please don't end up at WUSTL with those stats.
