Top Law Schools

So, I'm an 3rd-year engineering major at a top public university. I've considered law school for years, but generally at the back of my mind. But this summer I decided to take the LSAT after talking with a number of my friends at my university's law school. After a few practice tests I managed a 174 in June (hardcore math prepares you pretty well for that test), and now I'm prepping on the side to try to get that up to a 178-180 on the December admin, which I've been achieving fairly regularly on practice tests.

The trouble is: I'm a engineering double major at Berkeley, and that does some painful things to one's GPA. It's a 3.4, and I can't see it going too far in either direction over the course of this next year, though my goal is to close it out with a 3.5. I'm wondering what you all think of the specifics of my situation, both with my current 174/3.4 and with my goal of a 180/3.5. How much of a difference does being in a tough major or tough-grading school make? What are my chances at the different T14s? Where should I consider applying ED?

One other thing: how much does T14 matter against 15-20? I really want to stay in California if I can, so while I don't in general plan to apply outside the T14, I would consider UCLA and USC if the consensus is that they're not a huge drop from Cornell/GULC and the like in terms of job prospects / "prestige".

A 174/3.4 has no problem making it into mid-T14. There is even solid chance that you break into T6.

I have the exact same numbers, granted with a nonSTEM degree, and I initially thought that my gpa precluded from everything in the t14. However after checking out mylsn.info and looking at the most recent cycles it's pretty clear that those numbers have a great chance. Certainly no shot at y and s, unlikely at b and chi as well, but outside of that the odds are pretty good. Just get your apps in early and be ready to negotiate.
