I attend a top 5 ranked university with above average softs. I am most interested in T14 schools, especially Chicago.
Odds at Chicago, Penn, Columbia, and NYU especially welcome.

Need more info. If you are not MA/Chicano or PR, there is no real bump. What are your softs? How much time did you devote to the LSAT? How committed are you to this cycle?

Though in all likelihood, a retake for 170+ would greatly improve scholarship likelihood at those schools. Mid to low T14 care more about the score among URMs than HYS do.

My softs: Internship experience in legal and governmental settings
Volunteering (tutoring) experience with low-income children
First person in my family to attend either college and eventually grad-school
Multiple on-campus jobs
Maybe I'm overrating my softs, but compared to people I have talked to irl they seem pretty good.
As to my commitment to LSAT prep: I desperately want a 170+ but don't have the money to take classes. I have been studying through test books and I plan on retaking in Oct.

Law school numbers estimates I have a 67% of getting into Chicago, but doesn't that seem super optimistic?

Ok. I think your softs definitely help. Be sure to spend a lot of time on your DS and PS. Honestly, they are more probably important for your chances at acceptance for those schools at this point. The retake is really going to help with your scholarship chances. Self-studying is fine. Just be sure to get as much as far as materials go that would help you be comfortable with the exam. The LSAT is definitely a test of how comfortable you are with the test, I know how to always do LG so they never phase me but don't love speed reading under pressure and RC is usually my worst section.

67% is not too optimistic, though I am guessing that had a small sample size so just keep that in mind. Every point bump you get is probably $ unless you get yield-protected. And compelling essays probably mean acceptance at schools up to HYS.

So I am eligible for an ED admissions program through Chicago that guarantees me a $150k scholarship minimum if admitted. Could I get more at a similar school if I pull off a low 170+ ?

1. I believe you're referring to northwesterns ed scholarship, not uchicago

3. The softs you mentioned above are fine, but are by no means exceptional for a t14 student. They're pretty much average. The 1st gen college thing is probably the only thing that would make even a hair of difference in your app.

You don't need a prep course to prep for the LSAT. This forum has a wealth of information, including tips, places to ask questions, etc. If you want to break 170, you can break 170.

My tips:
7Sage for Logic game video explanations; Manhattan for Logical reasoning explanations. Both can be found online, for free.

Im an "other hispanic" and i think a got a boost from it because i wrote a compelling diversity statement that complemented by personal statement. With you numbers as it is, i think you could hit at least one of the bottom T14 but boosting up your score by 2 to 3 points would do wonders for you.
