Would you spend extra time in undergrad or still graduate at the same time? If you're planning to graduate next year regardless, you can apply and then send updated transcripts after each semester (for spring semester it will probably only affect waitlists, but still).

Work experience is definitely helpful and there is a lot to gain from taking some time off between undergrad and law school, but whether it will help you get in to more schools or not depends on what kind of job you get or what you spend doing in that time, so I can't really say if it that would help or not. It definitely can't hurt.

Are you retaking the LSAT?

A 3.7 is not going to hold you back as much as the 166 will.

the difference between 3.7/166 and 3.8/166 is minimal

Is there anything to suggest that sending updated transcripts with a higher GPA is perhaps less advantageous than applying with that higher GPA from the get-go?
I don't really know because I applied after I was done with UG. I'd guess theres an advantage to having the higher GPA from the get-go, though.
