Afternoon TLS,

I am graduating from a smaller public university in Texas in December, applying for this cycle and matriculating in Fall of '16. I take my first crack at the LSAT on Monday and I am fresh off of a PowerScore class room course. In my recent practice tests under close, test-like conditions I have been hitting the mid to low 160s. I plan on spending this summer working through the Bibles and drowning myself in practice tests while working part time. My LSAC GPA (tabulated by the Predictor calculator) will be a 3.41 barring some kind of meltdown by me in my last semester. My institutional is considerably higher (3.68) because my school does grade replacement for GPA purposes but my atrocious Freshman year still haunts my LSAC GPA. Like I said I am a white male, and as far as softs go I have work experience with a small personal injury firm for two summers, and experience as a TA for a fairly respected political science professor. I also have done a Congressional internship in D.C. and served as student body president this last year and on the executive board of my fraternity the year before, as well as working for the Greg Abbott campaign. The question is, what are my chances at UT (My dream school), UHLC and SMU ? I also plan to apply to Tech as a safety and if I crush the LSAT maybe some OOS T-14s, but I have little to no desire to leave Texas.

Chances are zero without an lsat.

Do as well as you possibly can on the lsat and get back to us.

Low to mid 160's won't get you into UT, but they would get you into every other school in Texas

GPA should not be a problem for any of the schools listed ( even UT), so it's really going to come down to the LSAT

Mainly for my own curiosity but what LSAT would make me competitive for UT, regular decision or ED? In your expert opinion. I've played with the numbers on law school predictor a few times.

Well now I can officially report my first score came back as a 166. I'm moderately happy with it, based on what I've seen from this board 167 is the magical cut off for most T-14s so I will absolutely be retaking in the fall. As it stands now what kind of shape am I in for UT, SMU, UH and any OOS T-14s with my above listed LSAT, GPA and resume?

GPA is really low for T14. Your softs are pretty good though so that might help some. Without being a URM you are going to at least want to hit the LSAT median for those schools so 169/170. But probably over since most have a median GPA of 3.8+. That being said, admissions are never entirely numbers so I would think a lot about your PS and any relevant supplementary essays you could use to boost your lower GPA. LORs will also be important for you. Good luck.

Gracias. T-14s were always gonna be a reach. UT is still my target and I'm gonna need a few more points on my retake to get safely above the median and compensate for my unimpressive LSDAS GPA.
