172, 3.75 at an Ivy, non-URM

LSAT: 172
GPA: 3.75

Great softs in undergrad

Weird softs since graduating

I'm conflicted about going to law school, but wouldn't want to pass up the opportunity if I got into some of the better T14s. Thoughts on my chances? Particularly the top 5?

You have a good shot at all of CCN, but not a very good shot at HYS. A retake could give you a better shot at H. Do you have a reason for wanting to go besides not wanting to pass up the opportunity?

Also are your paying the cost yourself? If so you might want to expand your options to include the lower t14 as you'll receive a much bigger discount. Maybe that's not a factor for you.

OP I recommend editing your post
You are giving such specific info that a lot of directors of admissions and others will know exactly who you are

also, based on your post and your description it does not sound at all like law school is a good idea for you
i get the sense that your passion is in the arts, and you would be much happier in a profession with more creativity

A lot of people here will tell you that a guy with a high gpa from an Ivy is the last person who should go to law school. The reasoning is that such a person should already have better opportunities than law school can provide.

This is only true for certain majors
BA in humanities even from Yale/Harvard will not necessarily have good options

The point is that he's already won the game, so it's unwise to roll the dice again. If he wants to be a lawyer, he basically starts over from square one by throwing himself into the fray with people who couldn't attend elite undergrads.

Concerning acting as a soft though: This guy looks like a potential Yalie.

I have multiple classmates at my t40 who went to HYS and other ivys. One was a starting athlete in football/basketball at his school. A lot of these grads are not taking a step back by attending law school. OP has very likely been making $20-50k a year the whole time post-college.

Yeah I will admit that there are many Ivy grads who end up going to mediocre law schools, as bizarre as that seems. Makes you wonder what went wrong.

There's no such thing as a mediocre law school. There are only mediocre outcomes. The valuable thing about the law school curve (in comparison with the grade inflation of undergrad) is that a person with an ivy undergrad who kills it grade wise at a non-t14 law school will have an elite outcome. By contrast, someone who goes from u texas-Arlington undergrad to upenn law will likely be unemployed if he ends up bottom 5-10%. So it's really not "bizarre" at all, if you think about it.

The ivy league students who go to lower ranked law schools aren't doing it because they want to dominate kids from state schools. There are absolutely mediocre law schools.

This is a really silly claim.
