3.41/174 - Options?

hey peeps, i'm from the Seattle area and ultimately want to end up back here but I'm willing to move pretty much anywhere provided I would have a good shot at getting a job back here that could service my debt post-grad. I've submitted my applications to UW, Michigan, Berkeley and Seattle U (just in case) - but am thinking about going for Penn, Georgetown & Columbia. What are my odds at those I've listed and are there any others you guys would add?

thanks for running those numbers on mylsn

. i'm curious to get some insight on whether or not i could reasonably expect to get any $ in the t14 - i know those stats include % that get money but still looking for some anecdotal views... consensus seems to be splitters don't tend to get much, which is a bit of a deterrent for me. also, besides looking at the mylsn info, any other suggestions re: applying elsewhere?

If I were you I would check out northwestern. They tend to be fairly splitter-friendly from my understanding. However they also stress work experience, not sure where you stand with that.

Ah forgot that. I graduated from UW in 2012 and worked full time all through school (~35 hours a week during school) and have worked in 2 different jobs since graduating. I currently work for my county's Superior Court - been there since March.

You probably have a solid chance at northwestern with some $. I think your gpa might even be over their 25% which doesn't hurt
In light of the decline in applicants, that 174 might even get you in somewhere like nyu or columbia. Wouldn't be too optimistic about $$ though
But of course the credited response is to apply broadly and see what happens. Good luck

penn, gulc, and cls?
very random
i don't see the connection considering you're targeting PNW
why aren't you just blanketing the t14

I'd blanket the T14. Seems like a 174 will be really valuable this year based on lower number of applications of high LSAT scorers to date. Higher ranked schools might be more willing to take a flyer on a 3.4, but it's hard to say.

yeah :/ kind of random, i was just thinking with low GPA my shots at t6 weren't great - guess i'm not sure why i grouped penn and columbia in my prospective app list. also not super excited about spending 1000+ on apps, seeing what you guys thought would be a decent shot at at least getting a bit of $ (e.g. think i'd get $ at UW)?

I'd target Columbia to Cornell. Exclude Berkeley, GULC. Throw in HLS as a hail mary.

it's hard to say where you'll get money, esp as a splitter
malleus' table pretty much perfectly sums up the conventional wisdom w/r/t numbers in your range
blanket the t14, omit hys+chi+berk if you're worried about app fees
it's a buyer's market, and you should have some decent $$ offers in the t14

alright! here we go! thank you guys, let's see what happens

One side question (may be a dumb one): the numbers in the table represent total $ for 3 years correct?

Yeah, total. Although it would be great if Georgetown was giving $90k/year scholarships.

Yeah, agree.
I think HYS+B are total non-starters. Chicago has dipped for splitters like this in the past I think so what the hell I guess. If you really want to YOLO then apply to all of the T14 but T-14 minus those schools is probably fine if you're concerned with app costs and can't get enough waivers to stomach paying the full fees at those schools.

I'd be tempted to throw in Chicago to give it a shot...but pass on HYS and Berks
Congrats on that LSAT! ....GPA floors aren't the smartest for schools to have outside HYS because of differences in school/major difficulty... but oh well what can you do ( A 3.4/175 shows better reasoning ability than a 3.8/168 but we all know Berks would take the second applicant 9.999 times out of 10)...I still think all T14 is in play minus HYS and Berk

Be wary of getting back to the PNW, even from the preftigious T14. The total SA class size for the Seattle area is something like 40-50 ppl tops, keeping in mind that there are a certain number of reserved spots for UW and SU.

Second the concern re: returning to PNW. If that's your primary concern, and get money at UW, seriously consider it.

Most schools will give you fee waivers so you will only have to pay the $21 LSAC fee to apply. Shouldn't cost much at all.

Gotta have a rock solid backup plan then though, cuz big law from UW almost certainly ain't happening. At least at T14s you have somewhat of a backup.
All depends on debt and what the realistic fallback is, IMO

True.
