Top Law Schools

Hi, I have a 3.2 GPA (in an engineering field) and scored a 171. I have been working professionally as an engineer for 2 years. Was president and officer in two engineering clubs in college (for extracurricular). Also took a law course in school and did well. Do I have any chances at top schools? Does the engineering degree help compensate for lower GPA?

A recent paper showed that a science/engineering degree has the same effect on law school performance as about a three point increase in LSAT score.

Whether an engineering degree helps during the admissions process is debatable, but if it does have any sort of effect that effect is probably negligible. You should apply assuming that your major has no effect on admissions chances. You can ask your letter of recommendation writers to write about the difficulty of your major and how your grades compare to the major average, but you should only do this if you believe that your recommenders will be able to do this in a way that reflects well on you.
