Top Law Schools

I understand that a school like Colorado doesn't get a lot of love here at TLS, but we each have our own priorities in life and that's where mine take me. I'm trying to decide whether or not to send an app to Colorado now or attempt a retake and send later in the cycle, knowing that a splitter's chances tend to go down with time.

164 LSAT (CU's 75% is 163 this year)
3.0 GPA (CU's 25% is 3.34 this year)
Military (> 5 years out of undergrad)
Engineering degree
Good softs / letters of rec
Scholarship money almost no object (GI Bill)
I was PTing high 160s - low 170s

So the question of the day - which is better?

1) Just apply now and hope my app is strong enough for admission
2) Attempt a retake in Dec, hope for a better score, and apply late in the cycle?

I guess there's technically a choice 3 which would be apply now, re-take if waitlisted. Additional info - they tend to respond in 3-4 weeks with a decision, but a deny can't be contested (even with a higher LSAT score).

you can always apply and tell them you're retaking
but if you were really PTing in the 170s and ended up at a 164
it sounds like you really underperformed
have you been able to figure out why?

How compelling is the reason to stay in CO and what do you want to do with a JD?

Not 100% sure . . . felt really good on test day. Missed a couple/few extra on every section, soo . . . that's that ha.

I'll be >30 when I get my JD so my priorities are likely a bit different than most people on here. I'm looking for a place to settle down and call home and Colorado is that place for me. I'm already debt free and won't pick up any debt in school so I'm not really gunning for some 165k +bonus BigLaw thing. Work/Life balance is worth a salary hit.

So in other words, not compelling?

What are your ties to Colorado? Are you from there? Went to college there? Significant other from there?

You're definitely not the only person who will be 30+ when they graduate law school. I'm a 2L and that's the boat I'm in. Also, not sure what difference age makes here, what was your point?

What kinds of specific jobs are you hoping to get?

The 3.0 makes it interesting but so does military. Tough to say. I assume military trumps the GPA, so likely in?

GI bill is a sweet deal, I would put it to better use than the University of Colorado, especially with tenuous ties. That market is really parochial from what I understand. But Randy went to school there so he'll probably say it's a good idea, I dunno. Having a SO there might help out too so maybe it won't be that bad?

I hope the job you're hoping to get is real and attainable. Sounds like you have it figured out, GL
