Top Law Schools

I scored a 159 on my LSAT and I have a 3.4 GPA and during my undergrad I have been very involved on campus and have excellent work experience. I am planning on applying to Seton Hall, American, Michigan State, Miami (FL), Villanova, Maryland, Wake Forest, and Fordham. What are my chances for these schools and will these schools cause me to have too much debt upon graduation?

Depending on OP's goals, this is not necessarily true. Everyone will tell you to retake the LSAT OP, and they will be right.

So don't apply as in I won't get in/debt not worth it?

I am from Detroit, MI going to school at Bowling Green State University. I want to work for sports teams or leagues in their legal departments, as well as possibly in a college's compliance department. I also have interest in working for a firm representing sport and entertainment figures.

Also, any suggestions on schools then? I get full Pell Grant right now and FAFSA is my friend.

Due to the fact that I did not retake in Sept 2014, would retaking in Dec 2014 hurt my chances at all? I will be enrolling in law school in Fall of 2015.

I'm also from Detroit. Your best option would be a December retake if you're trying to go fall 2015, but honestly you might be better served by working a bit in some kind of sports management related position while you study for the LSAT. Then go in 2016.

Marquette is known for their sports law program. You'd probably be looking at a 50% scholarship there with your current numbers. Otherwise you'll want to stick to Midwest flagships or T-14s. To get B1G flagships you'll have to get a 161+, T14 is more like a 169-170 for your GPA.

Sports law is pretty damn tough to get though. You really need to know people.

Edit: As to the schools you listed, you'll probably get into most of them, but most of them aren't worth going to even at a significant discount.

Don't go to law school. Take unpaid internship with sports team and work your butt off. YMMV. Make that LS decision after that.

These are excellent schools to attend if your goal is to live a menial life for 3 years on borrowed money, default, and then become a cowboy in the wild west.

You have a very weak shot of ever practicing law from any of these schools, and even if you do will be doing insurance defense. But unlikes elitist schools like Columbia and Stanford, these schools afford you a meaningful opportunity to perform wild west law, and live a life your elitist friends with indoor plumbing can envy. Picture this:

You ride a stallion up the street to work every morning, because nobody will lease you a car due to your credit. True, the stallion's name is Bubba, and he's a crackhead on parole, and not a horse. But when he marches you on down the path from point A to point B, does it really matter? You are a cowboy. 'Round the alleyways, American Law is known as All American Law.

If you're an elitist who believes you need to practice law to be a lawyer, have too much pride to watch your credit score plummet, and refuse to dig a hole in a public garden to go #2 then you should retake. But if you just are passionate about the law, you should go right away. Bubba is waiting, and he is impatient.
