Top Law Schools

Hello my current school forgives grades, thus when I came from my previous undergrad I had horrible grades due to immaturity over 11 years ago. I was 16 (graduated early) and wasn't ready for college at that time.

When I transferred over to my new school they didn't count all the WF's I had and just gave me a new GPA. I only have roughly 1 semester left. Basically LSAC bunch recalculated my GPA to a 1.5! But I got a 165 on the lsat 1st try and am a URM. I have a ton of work experience and can get good letters of recommendation.

What are my chances of getting in at any school? I'm not trying to start a "war" or anything like that, this an honest question.

but based on other threads that I've seen, a 1.5 is really an application killer unfortunately... I'm thinking even URM can't save you from that. also, "immaturity" doesn't seem like a great addendum topic either

What about 4 tier schools. Actually it was immaturity and 3 deaths in the family all within 2 days of each other. I was very close to them. I wasn't equipped with the tools on how to handle that at such a young age. But non-the less I'm hoping that I can get in somewhere.

To be blunt, the only schools you'll be able to get into with a 1.5 are going to be schools with horrendous employment statistics that should not be attended at any cost, for any reason. You honestly should not go to law school.

like mathematically how does that happen
how many semesters were you at the old school
how many semesters have you been at the new school

Obviously 3 deaths in the family makes a much better addendum, which is moot however, as you should not apply nor go to a TTTT school

My only goal is to go into private practice. I have 10+ years of experience as a business owner and I'll already have an "internship" set up straight out of school to gain experience with a family friend. Thus prestige is not a factor in my decision. My gpa is due to an entire year of WF's 11 years ago. I worked hard and have shown an upward trend. I have excellent EC's, I already work alongside the criminal justice system and have extensive experience accordingly.

I'm asking if it is possible to gain entrance with my stats to lower tier schools...even unranked. Seems like I'm just in need of getting in anywhere, and that may be so, however, I know what I want and I am as focused on getting it.

It isn't. Even as a URM, with a GPA that low you are unlikely to get into a law school that would not be a financially reckless decision.

I also have a lot of CLEP's and Pass/Fail grades. I mostly self-studied a lot of material in my undergrad and challenged several classes, therefore skipping an entire semester and going straight into the Final exam for which they gave me pass/fail credit (no letter grade). The several classes that I have a letter grade I didn't do so bad in.

Thank you for your insight. Not to sound arrogant (and my apologies if I do) however, I'm not concerned with the financial aspects as I will be paying for 1/3 of my education out of pocket.

He's not going to get any money, let alone a 75% scholly, with a 1.5. Maybe if he got the LSAT up to like a 175 some bad school would, but it would still be a negative financial outcome.

Uh... toin coss at any legal-related employment?

And yes, there will be some people who do just fine for themselves "in the local scene", but when its a coinflip chance... I still wouldn't take it, even on fullride (3 years working opportunity cost+ COL debt)

Your chances are pretty high, especially to the 4th tier. Your LSAT score is passable and your GPA was 11 years ago (is there any way you could take some community college courses and raise it). Law school admissions numbers are plummeting. If you have a pulse and can pay the bill plenty will take you, especially with the 165. What geographic area are you looking at?

So you're planning on opening your own firm right out of law school?

I'm planning on working part-time at my friends law firm anywhere from 9 months to a year. Then I want to go into private practice.

My train of thought is, if the opportunity arises, I'm very confident in my ability to go into private practice straight out of school. It's not impossible.

Yes. I've actually owned 3 bail bond offices for several years and I've cemented an incredible amount of contacts and relationships during this time with attorneys, clients, and several others in the judicial system.

I will be selling my business to a friend, in order to get into law. I also own another type of business that has nothing to do with law for which I will keep in order to sustain my family and I through law school.

Don't you have to have a certain GPA to even be able to apply?

Thank you. I'm looking at anywhere lol I'm not too worried about geographical location. But if I had to absolutely pick, I would choose to be in the north-eastern region.

But I think that I will take 3 more courses, pass with an A or at least a B+ before I apply so that I can get it up to at least a 2.1

Since you've been working for 11 years, I assume you graduated from undergrad. Sorry, but after you get your first degree, the courses you take no longer affect your GPA. You seem to be stuck with the 1.5
