Retake. Zero chance without a retake.

Your chances are better than zero and if you apply early you'll get at least 1 of the lower T14, but you should still retake.

what? OP has a great shot at several T14s and maybe with money
That said, definitely retake. Even the average 2 point increase will be a game changer for you, and with a few more points HYS and CCN with money are in play. The sky's the limit with that 3.9

i'm just worried i'll get lower/ prepping isn't really my thing, I just tried to get comfortable with the test the first time I took it
also I skipped a year of college and will only be 21 when entering. Will this hurt me?
Thanks for the responses

I'm 21 and starting at a T14 with $$$$. It is irrelevant. If "prepping" isn't your thing you will probably not do well at law school...since the whole measurement of success in law school is success on exams...for which you have to "prep". Anyway, retake.

Getting a lower score will also have virtually no impact on your cycle at all. Schools take your highest score and it sounds like you didn't prep as much as you should have so if you study properly you could boost yourself easily into the CCN with money/HYS zone.
If you are 21 then you have even more time to prep as you will already be one of the longest people at your school (which may but probably won't be detrimental to you).

it's okay if prepping isn't really your thing
just know, though, that many of your classmates
will make prepping their thing
and they'll be the ones getting full rides while you pay sticker

Assuming sarcasm? OP should get decent cash from the lower T-14. Would definitely retake though.

What I would have given to have had your 3.9 going into my LSAT prep! Retake, get mid 170s, and then enjoy your $$$.
If "prep isn't really your thing," make it your thing (and also reflect on what impact not enjoying prep will have a possible law school career...). But if you got a 168 without much prep, a mid 170s is very much in reach with enough drilling.
Also, regarding age, at 21 you'd be young at a T14.
Good luck, OP.

You'll definitely get into T14 schools. Even if you're waitlisted at first, I would say you have a high chance at being picked up eventually due to your 3.9 GPA (invaluable during waitlist season)

Thanks for all the responses.
By I'm not into prepping...I'm not saying I'm lazy. I just don't want to spend time on a test like the LSAT. Schools different.
For the last test, I read the Princeton review book about all the sections and took about 10 practice tests. I scored right in the middle...leaning to the high end of my practice scores with the 168.
If I retake, I'll probably do the same thing...take about 10 practice tests and then take the real one.
What do you all think about that game plan? And yes I realize people buy books and study every kind of problem. I'm just not going to do that...chalk it up to my laziness if you like.
Thanks again, everyone has been very helpful!!

LSAT qa?
So A you still think there's a good chance my score improves and B, enough of a chance that retaking is worth it, and C that the prep you just outlined would bring about big enough results to make a difference?

Why would you not want to spend time on a test like the LSAT? It's not like the SAT. At this point, literally every point you gain nets you at least tens of thousands of dollars in scholarship money, not to mention opening up schools like HYS and CCN with $$$.
Princeton Review is garbage, sorry. But the good news is that if you got a 168 with that, you can easily make it into the 170's. What did you score on each individual section?

Missed 8 on reading comp (there was a weird passage...got stuck and ran low on time at the end). Missed 7 arguments total (5 and 2). Missed 1 in games

Your plan is to do a half-assed job preparing for a test that by itself is more important than all the tests you'll take in law school combined.
Let's do a little math. What's the likely difference in expected annual income between a HYS degree and a lower T-14 degree, discounted to present value? Let's be extremely conservative and say $10,000 (that strikes me as ridicuously low but whatever).
So say $400,000 (in present dollars) over the course of a career. This isn't even taking into account the direct costs of law school, which will decline by tens of thousands of present dollars, and possibly even six figures, if you bump your LSAT score by a few points, which you are likely to do if you actually study hard for the test. So basically you're saying you're OK with lighting a half million dollars on fire because studying for the LSAT is tedious.

Also, are the schools lying when they say they look at all scores? I'm a bit worried that if I do worse it'll come back to bite me.

WTF does this even mean? I don't think you grasp the importance of this test.

It's not about studying
every type of problem. It's simply about the fact that with just some foresight and self-motivation it's entirely feasible to go from a 160 diagnostic to a 175.
I think your game plan is bad and ill-informed. Enjoy under-performing.

That's just not true.
But re-take anyway with that GPA. Get 2-5 more points and feel the scholarship love.
