T14 chances as a reverse-splitter

I have a 4.0 from a large state university in Classics, as well as numerous positions in organizations on campus, but nothing really out of the ordinary. The only thing seriously hurting me is my LSAT score--in June 2014 I got a 162, which was disappointing as my diagnostic had been a 163 and my PT's for the month leading up to the test were consistently 168s every time. I plan on retaking the LSAT in September and am aiming for a 170-172. Will I have a shot at any of the T14 schools if I can break a 170? Or is that 162 going to hold me back?

There's no such thing as a "reverse splitter" - just someone who needs to retake.

Don't accept paying full freight (i.e., signing up for $300K of non-dischargable debt at the start of repayment) at a T14 under any circumstances with that GPA. Retake until you can get a massive scholarship at a lower T14 at the very least.

Breaking 170 should give you plenty of options in the T14, some with a lot of money. You'd be above all GPA 75th, and only 3-4 schools have a 171+ LSAT median now. If you end up with a 170-172, you'll have amazing options, but if you git that target in PTs soon, don't get complacent. Shoot for as close to 180 as possible.

The only schools where your initial 162 will remotely hurt you are HYS. No other school gives a shit about anything but your highest LSAT. If you break 170 you should get multiple full rides/near full rides at t14 schools.

I know someone with almost your exact numbers (163/3.94) from a large state school you was waitlisted and then accepted for sticker at NU and UVA. That being said, retake, don't waste your gpa. If you have a 4.0 you can do better on the LSAT than a 162.
