Top Law Schools

Hello Everyone,

My first post on the board. Im currently a student at the University of Maryland. Interested in schools in the DC area primarily.

My top choices are:

Georgetown (Reach)
George Washington (Target)
University of Maryland (Safety)

My plan is to apply Early Decision to Georgetown.

Im getting my degree in Accounting. Have a 3.44 LSDAS GPA and got a 166 LSAT on this past June 2014 test. I am retaking in September. As far as softs, I worked about 6 months in a litigation firm but thats about it. Im middle eastern so a little diverse but not really helpful for law school admissions purposes. I had 2 questions.

My first question is how do my chances look at this point with my current numbers?

My second question is would me applying in November as opposed to September make much of a difference in my admission cycle? Lets say if I manage a 2 point increase to 168.

Don't ED Georgetown.

If anything, you should apply ED to GWU and try to cop that full scholly. You most likely won't get it, but worst case scenario is they roll you to RD and make a decision there. Full tuition at GWU is infinitely better than sticker at GULC.

I appreciate the link and doing the research for me. I played with the number and it seems as if with a couple points increase I would be more competitive at Georgetown and perhaps able to get some money from GW.

Why are you limited to DC? You can get a lot of money (or a full ride) from regional schools if you are willing to practice elsewhere. Last year, those numbers would be full tuition at WUSTL.

Your GPA isn't bad. Why not shoot for 170+?

Two reasons. The first is for family reasons, I need to stay close enough to my family that I would be able to get home in a couple hours at the most. Secondly Id like to practice in the DC area and, short of attending a T6, have a better chance at it from a school in the region.

Well Im shooting for a 180 but from all my practice tests I took i was usually scoring between 165 and 169. Im starting to ramp up my studying again for the September test so hopefully I will be able to get there! Id imagine my options would only increase

I think you should also shoot an application to UVA. They have around 15-20% employed in DC IIRC, which is mainly self selection over GULC's 30% (especially since GULC puts 83% into jobs while UVA's employment is 95%).

I probably will end up sending an application there too. A reach with my scores but if I improve enough on this LSAT maybe i can be more competitive.

I have heard that NU's full-ride ED program takes people with numbers at/above their medians and rolls everybody else to RD with an increased chance of RD admission.

Hey so I retook my LSAT and ended up scoring 163. Not the end of the world and no excuses.

I've pretty much put it in my mind that Im not getting into GULC. How are my chances looking at GW? Ive looked at the numbers but I just wanted peoples real opinion rather than just statistics. I can definitely see myself there but Im hoping my numbers get me there

Just use mylsn.info if you want to assess chances

I guess probably in at GWU? I looked at that graph someone posted months ago and that's what it said at least. It probably won't be at a justifiable cost but that's for you to figure out for yourself I suppose.
