3.0 / 168 non-URM

Post by person123456 » Fri Jul 04, 2014 9:21 pm

My goal right now is to get into Ohio State where I am an undergrad in political science. I also would consider other schools in Ohio or elsewhere if I received a good scholarship. The softs in my application won't help me out. I have $0 of undergrad debt. My parents would pay my COL expenses and part of my tuition. (possibly not much)

I am probably retaking in September, but I am wondering about a scenario where I can't improve my score.

What are my chances? Also, what other schools should I apply to?

When should I apply in this cycle? I was thinking of waiting until after Fall semester to give me a chance to boost my GPA, and I am under the impression that applying ED is always a bad idea.

I have a few questions:

How much more do you have left in undergrad?

Why Ohio State?

At first blush, I'm thinking: why the rush? You still have undergrad remaining yet have to get that law school app in this cycle? With your (likely) sub-3.2 GPA, a year or two of good work experience sure wouldn't hurt.

Additionally, you absolutely need to retake if this was your first try. If you managed a 168 while you're still in undergrad and have been taking classes, a 171+ is absolutely doable with a razor sharp focus. Every point you increase may be vital with your GPA.

I'll let others opine, but there is absolutely no race to law school...especially to a school that doesn't have outstanding employment outcomes.

Thanks for the reply.

I have one year left of undergrad. I'm leaning heavily towards practicing in Ohio at this point, so it seems like OSU is the best option for my situation. Are there schools that place better in Ohio that I have a serious chance of getting in to? I also would not have to go through the hassle of moving if I stayed in Columbus, and i enjoy living here.

I get what you're saying about taking a year or two off, but if there's any way I can get a good outcome applying this year, and enroll for fall 2015, that would be preferable for me.

Bump.

Can a person with 3.0 / 168 expect to get into Ohio State?

Don't go unless you can get out with less than 50K debt, Ohio State isn't worth going into a lot of debt for.

I checked and there is almost no information for me to go off of on LSN.

The max debt that I'm looking at is probably 80k. If I can get a decent scholarship I would be under 50k in debt, but I have no idea how likely this is.
