Top Law Schools

So I'm a URM, biology major with a 2.5 gpa and 163 LSAT from the June test. I know the gpa is awful but kind of too late for that. I'm not even looking for a T50 school, but would I have a chance at schools like Denver or Case Western?

Sorry, dude. Unless you have unlimited personal wealth and absolutely nothing productive to do for the next four years of your life and beyond, law school is not in the cards for you with a 2.5 GPA. Maybe a post-bac program while you study for the MCAT?

No, but I know of people who had <3.0 GPA before their post-bac and managed to do well through link after raising it. Granted, IIRC they all had fantastic MCAT scores, so it's still a long shot. Probably absurdly so.
But TBH I don't know wtf someone does for a living after having graduated with a 2.5 GPA in a science major. Go to votech and become a carpenter? Wait tables?

I feel for OP but this is pretty bleak.

its gonna be hit or miss tho

so apply broadly, ask for fee waivers (mention youre a urm with a 163 when u ask)

and see where the chips fall

Dude, even if he pulls up to 170 he's an auto-ding virtually everywhere worth going. He is well below bottom 25% GPA at the worst ranked schools in the nation. When you probably cannot even get into BYU with a hypothetical 7 point LSAT improvement, it's time to abandon ship and look at other options. That's not scholarship territory even in the TTT zone.

I have to disagree with YMMV here... You will need to improve your LSAT, but that GPA is not the kiss of death. I have a 2.4 and got a full ride from WUSTL and got into Northwestern. Granted, I have an absurdly high LSAT score, but as a URM you won't need one as high as mine. If you can break 168-170, you should be in the same (or better) situation as myself. This is just the opinion of a 0L, though, so take it for what it's worth.

I was a urm splitter with a sub3 gpa and a 168 & I got t14 @ sticker + six figure scholarships throughout the first tier.

ive seen it happen for people over and over these past two years.

This is not true. URM + 160+ LSAT will land you money in the T50. Apply broadly and retake until you max out. You're not getting T6, but hope is far from lost.

This intrigues me because the data absolutely does not indicate that a URM with a 2.5/168 would have a snowball's chance at NU admission, let alone a full scholarship from a flagship regional. Certainly not a chance worth wasting more of a person's life over, anyway.

You may be right about the data, but bear in mind we have entered a phase of drastically declining applications, and the data you're relying on is based on results before this new era. Obviously I fudged the LSAT number as a rough estimate, maybe it's 170+, who knows... I'm just saying I know standards for LSAT are much more lax for URM's, and I did it, so I think he/she could too.

The data definitely does suggest that he or she would have a chance at NU (and would be a lock at WUSTL and Minnesota). Non-URMs with 2.3-2.7 GPAs and a 170 LSAT get into NU, and they get into WUSTL and Minnesota with loads of money with LSAT scores several points lower than that.

I'm an AA male who went to a T50 private liberal arts school for undergrad if that makes a difference at all.

it doesn't make a difference in the sense that your best option by a long shot is still to retake the LSAT (if you want to go to law school, that is)

Probably in with $ here. But too few data points to make an accurate guess. Idk how the 2014-2015 cycle is gonna go.

NonURM <3.0 168 with good money to T1 (although many not worth taking) this cycle. Raising that LSAT can make a huge difference. Stop being a splitter, become a super splitter.

So much negativity here

Just study for the retake and write a killer personal statement.
