EDing anywhere is a mistake. 3.9 and 170 will equate to a RD success story. Don't get stuck eating Columbia at sticker.

plz do not ED
you will lose the ability to negotiate aid (say hello to sticker)
you will lose the ability to consider other schools (what if harvard comes knocking and you get dat need aid)

when i applied ED i was immediately filled with regret and anxiety
every single day until i was admitted i debated withdrawing my app
then i spent the next five months tossing and turning in bed thinking about 300k of debt
this could be your future

should i ED?
plz answer the following qs
-are you a rich trust fund kid
-do you have tuition covered by the military
-are you applying to nu or gw
-are you zealously committed to pi and going to a school w excellent lrap (maaaaaybe)
-do you plan on fleeing the country immediately upon the lapse of your deferment period
if you answered yes to any of these questions, OK APPLY ED!
if not, NO DO NOT APPLY ED

You already have a good shot at Columbia, as far as we know from LSN profiles.

But you have plenty of time to retake, so why not? Each point could be worth $$$ and admittance safety. Study hard and you could get a 50-100% scholarship from Columbia, aka: winning.

Good luck!

A retake isn't a terrible decision. There's no downside beyond potential opportunity cost.

Retake > RD > Don't Go > ED

A point or two would make a big enough difference to matter. I think a retake is worth it because like above poster, nothing really to lose other than a couple hundred bucks and time. The search I did before this one had a small sample size. This one is still kinda small, but a lot better than the one before (if you increase your lsat).

I got a 170 in June last year and retook in October...and did significantly worse. Like SIGNIFICANTLY worse (partly due to a bubbling error and partly due less-than-ideal testing conditions). After laying comatose in bed for a few days and letting my friends/bf/mother console me through my vortex of doom, I came out okay. My GPA was a 3.85.

I got into HLS and SLS and am headed to SLS in the fall. Don't fret!! :)
