Top Law Schools

I just finished my sophomore year of college, and am an engineering major at a large public university. I would like to go to law school, and do IP law upon graduation.

I currently have a LSAC GPA above a 4.0, and expect to keep it above a 3.9 when it it comes time to apply for law school. Given my high school ACT scores, it predicts me to score between a 166-168 on the LSAT (obviously this is not very accurate, but it's all I can do for now).

As for my softs; I have internship experience for 3 summers at one of the largest engineering companies in the world. I was the rush chair for my fraternity, and will be president next semester. I am involved with numerous volunteer and campus organizations.

From reading on here, I've heard about the Northwestern ED scholarship.. where if you are accepted ED, you receive a $50,000 scholarship for all three years.

So here are my questions for you all...

1) Does this ED scholarship really exist for Northwestern? Do you actually receive $50,000 per year if you apply and are accepted ED?
2) What LSAT score would I need to be a strong candidate for this scholly, given my GPA and softs?
3) Do any other T14 schools offer similar ED schollys, similar to Northwestern's?

Northwestern is BIG on work experience for which your internships give you no help. Your fraternity, may bring it up briefly, but more than likely not at all. I was president and secretary of mine. The IP is a nice touch and definitely something you want to bring up, if it actually does interest you. In the case you do apply ED, you would be applying in the 165-170 range with your GPA. This is what you will need to be competitive without work experience. Then even in that case, why? If you have those type of numbers do not ED and leverage it for scholarship money at other schools. Also, your ACT is no measure of your LSAT. Good luck!

1) Yes, but make sure the program is renewed for future cycles before committing to it.
2) Whatever the median LSAT score is for the previous cycle (currently at 168 but could drop again) would make you a virtual lock.
3) No, but some lower ranked schools do.

If you can score into the mid-170s you might be able to get a Rubenstein Scholarship at UChicago. These scholarships include full tuition and a 15k/yr housing stipend. A low to mid-170s score would also make you a strong candidate at Yale, Harvard, Stanford. Shoot for the moon, kid.

Honestly, I'm just very nervous about the LSAT. Standardized testing has never been my strong-suit.

I do very well on my college exams, because I study my ass off for them. Does studying really help that much for the LSAT?

I still plan on studying my ass off for the LSAT... I just hope it helps

It absolutely helps. I raised my score by 10 from my cold diagnostic to real score, and that's not some exceptional feat, just good ole fashioned studying and lots of practice tests. Check out the study resources and guides on this site. Good luck!

I thought you said your ACT score projects to a 95th% or better LSAT score? Stop telling yourself you're too dumb and just get it done when the time comes. Study for a year if you have to.

Studying is almost necessary. I was cold testing at 150 and scored a 168 on test day. Most people I know who didn't study scored <160 or right around at best.

haha whoopsies! Yes absolutely. Granted, I have met one or two very lucky people who hit 170+ with minimal studying, but that's an exception to the rule that it should be absolutely necessary
