Re: 161 LSAT / 3.21 GPA / STRONG softs / URM
I don't think you're URM. You NEED to retake if you want a realistic shot at NU and Chicago.

Yeah, you may want to check on that URM status thing. I think you are non-URM. For Hispanics, it's Mexican-Americans or Puerto Ricans.

If you won't be ready then just retake in June and sit out this cycle. Loyola and DePaul are definitely not worth itleigh912198972 wrote:Oh! My mistake then, not URM. Just half-Brazilian.
I have until tomorrow to register for February LSAT. Just not sure I can get up high enough to get into NU. May not be worth it. I don't really know.

Yes, not worth going to but that's just my opinion. Maybe with a full ride and since Loyola is in your target market and you have an IP background it might be an ok idea, but I'll leave that to others to comment on.leigh912198972 wrote:t-14orbust wrote:If you won't be ready then just retake in June and sit out this cycle. Not worth going to you mean?
I think with a 168 you'll have a shot at NU because of your strong WE. 169-170 a little better shot. 171+ and I think you're in.

Also, do you have info on Intellectual Property/Patent Law as a civil?
Seems like threads on here indicate EE/Physics 1st, then ME.

Re: 161 LSAT / 3.21 GPA / STRONG softs
You can likely get into Loyola and get a large scholarship with your current numbers. If your certain you want to practice in Chicago that may be a viable option just be aware you will have to finish very high in your class to have a shot at a good job and it's a Chicago school (meaning you will be relegated to working in greater Chicago). You can possibly get into Northwestern with a 168 or so because of your WE. However, that will likely be at sticker or close to it. Whether you think Loyola at cheap or free or NU at sticker is a better option you should decide yourself and that should determine whether you retake and sit out a cycle. Just my opinion.

Re: 161 LSAT / 3.21 GPA / STRONG softs
If you hit Northwestern's LSAT median (what is it now? 169?) I think you'll almost certainly get in. I think that has to be your target considering you want big law. I don't think any other lower ranked Chicago schools are worth it for you, I wouldn't go to any of those schools unless it was on a full ride and I was perfectly fine with doing "small law"- personal injury, things like that.
As someone who personally went from 161 to high 160s and an acceptance at Northwestern, I can tell you that that kind of jump is totally possible. You just have to make peace with the fact that you might have to take the LSAT 3 times and/or sit out a cycle. Your future career will thank you for your patience and perseverance.
