Long time lurker here, just got my score back and I want to stay in the top 30 range ideally. Don't think I have a snowball's chance in hell at UVA but I have a family member who is a pretty well respected alumni of UVA to put a word in for me, is it worth it to apply?
Also my first LSAT was a 161 (June) if that matters.

You are likely out at all of the T14 but V might be worth the app, especially if you are a legacy. Are you a URM?

I think UVA/GULC/NU would be legit reaches
Youll probably get good offers from WUSTL/UMN
As a big splitter, you should just apply everywhere you can afford to (and ask for fee waivers, lots of T1 schools will give you one since you are well above their LSAT median) and then weigh your offers.

Thanks man I appreciate the help. Any chance at U Texas or does my GPA count me out there?

I doubt you would get Texas. But you have a good shot at UVA ED if you're considering it.

Yeah, UT hates splitters. Esp if you are not a resident (they have a residency req).
I was a TX resident, had a 3.0, was above the LSAT median, and got waitlisted.

UT took a handful last year according to LSN w/ the following numbers (all non-URM):
3.2/168 (Tx resident, $28,500 scholly, K-JD)
3.14/169 (Tx resident, $9,000 scholly, out of UG 1-2 yrs)
3.1/169 (non tx resident, no scholly, out of UG 3-4 yrs)
2.9/174 (non tx resident, no scholly, out of UG 3-4 yrs)
2.79/177 (non tx resident, $7000 scholly, out of UG 3-4 yrs)
2.67/169 (non tx resident, no scholly, military)
Seems like if you come work in TX for awhile and establish residency you might have a shot at UT. *shrug*
