4.0 / 174 (161, 164, 167)

Average softs, non-urm, 2 years out of undergrad

I had a hard time finding data for similar applicants on LSN. What effect will my three previous takes have on my cycle? I plan on applying to T-14 and UCLA/USC. Thanks so much!

It shouldn't have any effect. Congrats on the great score!

It will likely have an effect with Yale and Stanford.

Are you on LSN? I want to follow your cycle. I’m a retaker as well with multiple scores. (Also sending you a PM about the 167-174 jump).

I would imagine OP is effectively in at H, though. Do you agree?

Congrats on sticking with it. Even if the retakes do have a small minor effect at a couple of places, you are in a far better position with the 174 than you'd have been with the 167. Great work.

I'd have to think so. Was H one of the schools in elterrible's statistical analysis that disfavored retakers? I can't remember.

Yep. If someone's retake results in just a one-point increase over their previous high score, then the benefits will outweigh the negatives.

I had numbers somewhat similar to yours when I applied in the 2010-2011 cycle (3.94, 167/170/174). In the end I did get off of the H waitlist and am happy with how everything worked out, but I think the multiple scores did affect my cycle somewhat when compared to what you see on LSN for a straight up 3.9x/174. However, I did not apply to the full T14 (personal reasons for geography), so the rest of the T14 may treat it as just the 174.

You will definitely still do better than without the 174, and in the end the schools that do "average" will still likely treat your LSAT as somewhere between the straight average and the 174. Also, if in the chance that you do get waitlisted somewhere you'll probably be at the top of the list since they will still love to have that 4.0/174 to shore up their medians.

Thanks so much for sharing your cycle! It's nice to finally see data on someone with similar numbers. I figured it might have some impact, but I'm hoping the decrease in apps helps offset that. I didn't even think of the influence my numbers would have on a waitlist.

Thank you! If it wasn't for this site, I would have just settled with the 164 two cycles ago. TLS convinced me to retake that and to retake again. I actually remembered reading a post about your retake when I was weighing my options. It was definitely worth the time off and all the study time.

Should have my LSN up by the end of the week.

Are you me? I have 3 takes- the second being a 167, third being a 174.

LSAC GPA is lower though- 3.85ish.

Also non URM. Also 2 years out of UG.

And I've heard the multiple takes won't affect us much. What is your top choice? I'm hoping for H(or YS) or Columbia.

No way! There's way too many similarities here. We'll have to compare our cycles and see how they play out. My top choice is S, followed closely by YH and Berkeley but the rest of the T14 + USC/UCLA for the right price would work too. Just gonna cast the net wide and see what I get. Best of luck!

Very nice! Your cycle will be an inspiration for future TLS'ers to retake, even 3+ times and against all odds.

Absolutely. Future 0Ls, take note: this OP is a poster child of TLS wisdom. OP, please come back and share your success story once your plans are finalized.
