171/4.01 - options?

171 and 4.01. Softs include Peace Corps (currently serving). I will be applying for fall 2015. I may retake, but it will be difficult while serving overseas.

What are my chances for SLS or other T14? Any chance of $$ (I won't get need based) from T14?

Thanks for any input!

play with http://mylsn.info to get answers to all your questions. Peace Corp will be an okay soft and one that SLS might really like, but I think you have a pretty good shot based on numbers as well. When it comes to SLS (and HY), there is definitely a holistic approach used on top of the usual numbers requirement, but all-in, I'd say you stand as good a chance as most of hitting on one of them. All you can really do is apply and find out. GL!

I'm applying this cycle with your exact stats (including PC).

Sent you a PM. Check it. :)

Play around with different ranges of LSAT and GPA on mylsn.info to get a more accurate feel, but here's one result:

Basically, for SLS your softs need to be in the top half of the applicants with your numbers. For HLS and UChi, they just need to be not in the bottom 25%. Yale is a prayer for even applicants with the best numbers. The rest of the T14 you'll get in with big money likely at a couple schools.

These are very rough predictions. Apply to all T14 (minus Georgetown, which is an opinion that isn't shared by everyone).

Is there much difference between a 4.01/171 and a 4.15/171?

None whatsoever.

So I'm guessing pretty much everything after the 75th is treated as equal, at least in terms of GPA?

OP and guy with same stats, last cycle people with 3.94-4.20/170-171 went 10-0 at Harvard and did well at Stanford too. It seems like you'll have low chances at Yale, a very good shot at HLS, a good shot at SLS, and excellent chances everywhere else.

For decisions, yes. But for scholarships, especially the big named ones, a super high GPA is definitely helpful. That being said, there's no difference once you hit 4.0

Yea, I'm excited to see what happens. I think the drop in applicants is making 4.0 GPA's really valued in particular. I'm guessing the % of people with 3.95+ and 4.0+ remains relatively constant, but I'm not sure what that % is for above 170 applicants. I'm guessing somewhere around 6-8% based on LSN, but it may be lower since LSN tends to reflect the more well qualified side of the applicant spectrum.

I went to mylsn with the intention of showing that you were mistaken, but actually the difference between 3.9-3.95 and 3.95+ does seem to make a difference at your LSAT range. Most likely because you are below YHS LSAT medians, so they want above 75th GPA (~3.95) to compensate.

If you are at or above YHS LSAT medians (173+), though, it doesn't make a difference between very high (3.9-3.95) and super high (3.95+).

Edit: Just want to note that I'm treating SLS like they have the same percentiles as YH because in terms of admissions decisions they effectively do.

Oh, I've played with mylsn as much as is probably possible and there definitely seems to be a difference between 3.9-3.95 and 3.95+. Maybe even 3.88-3.93 and 3.93+. In any event, I think chances are looking good for people with 170-172 LSAT and 3.95+ gpa. Better than in previous years, at least.

these humblebrag posts are probably the most annoying thing on this site. If you got a 4.0 in college and scored a 170+ you should be smart enough to know your options are wide open.

Absolutely not a brag post. LSAT 171 does not leave options wide open, nor does it answer my question about merit aid. I'm just trying to get feedback on my realistic options (I have an odd UG major). Please do not take offense - it is an honest request for input.

I think you're good to go to just apply, honestly! Your high GPA should balance out your LSAT and make you a pretty strong contender. I don't really feel that you need to retake.
