I do. Admissions will be able to see a change in your course work and surmise that you changed your major (especially if you went from bio to history or something). It seems like you are going to have to write an addendum explaining why you were put on academic probation as part of your C&F portion of your app. But an addendum to explain your GPA will only come off negatively. They will think, "well what if law is hard for him, he can't just switch majors here..." Your LSAT is solid and your GPA isn't the worst. Make sure your app is perfect and you are straightforward about everything and take responsibility, that would go much farther than a GPA addendum in your case.ckyo01 wrote:i see where you are coming from. thanks for your input.Travis12 wrote:Also, I don't know if writing an addendum would be a good idea. I don't know exactly what your situation is but you certainly don't want to come off as saying basically, "my major was too hard, so I switched it to something I could excel at." This would certainly hurt you rather than help you. But like I said I don't know what you mean when you say "much of it was due to a change in major"
although im ashamed to admit it, i entered school as a biology major because my parents were high on me becoming going to medical school. it was never an interest of mine. i soon realized where my passion was when i just did not enjoy what i was studying and switched to political science. at that point my gpa went from 2.7 to 3.6 but the damage had been done.
i would also have to mention that i was placed on academic probation after my freshman year, in danger of losing a full scholarship. i had numerous talks with my dean and was able to perform well enough after changing my major to stay on the dean's list for the rest of my college career.
indeed, it does seem like "my major was too hard so i switched". do you still think that itd do more harm than good?
