Just trying to see what my chances are. I literally decided just a few weeks ago that I wanted to go to law school. Took a practice test and got a 169. With a little studying, I'm hoping to pull off at least a 170, though my highest practice test currently has been 172. Registered for the October LSAT.
Background: I graduated from a T-30 university with a dual major in humanities/business areas. Been working for two years in fairly unrelated (to law) jobs in New York City.
Ideally, I'd like to stay in NY or very close, as my fiancee has a job here, and to relocate would be a hassle. Looking at NYU right now, but hoping for $$ somewhere if it's in the cards.
Anyway...what are my chances?

Piling on for c'mon dude and adding 2 tid-bits of information:
1. NYC has a very poor selection of viable law schools outside of Columbia, NYU, and Cornell if you're down with a 4 hour bus ride on weekends to see your SO.
2. You most likely won't score a 170 on the LSAT in October. A lot of people in your PT range either choke on the test, weren't taking it under proper conditions, or were taking older tests that are much easier to score on. I was in your position and know and read about several others in similar positions in real life and on this site and the middle 80% of scores for people in your position is probably around 164-169. If you end up in this range too, don't be scared to retake.

I second this. I took about 20-30 PTs, averaged 173, got 179 twice (in a row) on PTs, ended up getting 169 on gameday. Keep practicing until you score plateaus and you begin to minimize score variation.
