170, 3.97 - Chances at HYS/CCN?

I know my GPA's in the right range, but my LSAT seems borderline (at best) for these schools. Pretty meh softs, aside from two years at a fairly prestigious employer (Think MBB Consulting / GS,MS,JPM I Banking).

Out at Y, better than 50/50 chances at H and S, definitely in at Chicago and NYU, probably with some money, inevitable waitlist at Columbia. Or accepted with no money.
I'd still retake. Based on your work experience, I think you'll do really well come OCI time. Thus, it makes by far the most sense to take the most money you can at CCN, which will in actuality probably end up being Chicago. Not only would you have a massive increase in likelihood at H and S (close to 100%) with a 172, but you'd also probably get 90k-120k+ at a high T14, which is arguably better.

Why is this the case?

I don't believe it is..

Because Columbia is way more into the LSAT than their peer-ish schools. A 173/3.7 has a far, far better chance than a 170/4.0
EDIT> If one of you nay-saying gentlemen would be interested, you can no-doubt do the numbers yourself.

1-2 more points will mean the difference between maybe Harvard and absolutely Harvard but you should have at least 50/50 odds this cycle. Will probably get about $50k at Chicago and almost $100k at a couple lower schools like UVA and Duke.

Odds at SLS are way less than 50% now, and a 172 still doesn't give OP chances close to 100% there. Columbia is more likely than not next cycle, and Chicago WLs/rejects plenty of applicants with OP's numbers.

For the sake of my digital credibility...
I wouldn't call 8-5-0 "inevitable WL".

You'll more likely than not get into H, but you should retake.
Seriously.
It's the worst feeling to know that you were one or two questions away from being a lock at H. That close. You can avoid six painful months of slow torture, at first being held and then waitlisted, by retaking. In conclusion, please retake.

I'm surprised by the optimism in this thread.... 170/3.97 being more likely than not at Harvard seems questionable.

last cycle (12-13), I think almost everyone with a 170 & 3.95+ was WL--> accepted. A few years ago a 170 non-URM would most likely be a reject. That's why the optimism.

Got it. Makes sense. Since last cycle will almost certainly be similar to this one, I can see H not waiting on the wait list for some people this time around..

3.96 is far different than 3.87 for YHS, but yes, the 171 is borderline but I think HS are strong possibilities. If I were you and only had one take so far and felt like I should have done better, I would think of retaking because 2 more points approaches lock territory with a 3.9+. But definitely a tough call IMO

How many credits do you have? How many are you going to be taking fall semester? It just seems nearly impossible to go from a 3.87 to a 3.96 the 3.9 is likely but I wouldn't put a your eggs in the 3.96 basket, for it seems unlikely. I had a 3.89 and got 20 semester hours of A's and it only raised my GPA to a 3.92 but I was getting into the 85-95 ish credit range. But I suppose that is beside the point, make sure you get the 3.9 then you are at median everywhere.
