Same numbers, also an Econ major and I was rejected at HLS this year. I had two years of work experience. Assuming you're not a URM, your gpa will probably keep you out at H, but its still worth the application. If applicants continue to decrease, your chances could be better two years down the road, especially if you have some impressive work experience.

Check out my lsn if you want and let me know if you have any questions about my cycle.

Harder than what? Sociology? At my UG, economics was an easy major (no thesis..) relative to others, and mathematical economics a giant flame since it only req'd a couple upper div math classes so people took intro diff eq and combo called it a concentration. If anything harvard will see it this way too but they probably wont care either way.

You have basically no shot at hys unless you are URM :/ but nearly a lock at columbia so id aim for that.

lays123 wrote:What are my chances at HLS?

Will law schools take into consideration my economics major and that is a bit more difficult than others?

Good softs and work experience; plan to work for a year or two before applying.

Thanks!

Classic non-TLS sentiment. MY LSAT course instructor actually preached that schools took UG major difficulty into heavy consideration. LOL.

I have the same GPA, but a 173 and I'm on the wait list. I know TLS common wisdom is that your undergrad doesn't matter, but from what I've noticed, the lower GPAs at Harvard tend to come from Ivies. Not sure what your undergrad is like, but it's definitely worth the application. Good luck!

to be fair, there are some STEM majors that might get a slight float GPA-wise. Economics just isn't one of them, considering the coursework isn't particularly challenging at the undergraduate level

IMHO, TITCR.

Keep in mind that you might consider economics more difficult than the "average" major, but you'd be going up against Math/Statistics/Physics/Biology/Engineering/Chemistry/permutations of different combinations of all of the above.

i was just talking about this...(see page 94: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... start=2325)

no they won't, unless there's a "tie" (then again... no two people are ever the same in all critical aspects, are they)?

if you do get in, don't make the same mistake again and try to explain to law firms that Fed Courts was harder than corporate finance.

it's like those people who keep going on and on about.."I got 4 H's in 'real' courses"...whatever the fuck that is. nothing is "real" man, it's all hoops to jump through. well the debt is real. that and lrw, but you get my point.

anyways, i don't have advice for you, but good luck. i just wanted to get my point across.

"difficulty" is relative. one might be a genius in physics but struggle with writing etc. it's all relative and dependent on individual talent. there are different kinds of intelligence. personally, i'd take the better writer every time.

No chance at HLS. Little to no chance at SLS.

Kinda the exact opposite of the truth, but uneducated guesses are just as good as informed ones I guess

ETA: economics is an "average" major for law school admissions IMHO
