Top Law Schools

I've got some pretty good sorts, don't have a ton of money left for applications. Is it feasible to get into Minnesota or Indiana with those numbers. Any other T1s to look at if I'm in the Chicago area.

Already got accepted at Loyola-Chicago so I'm not applying to any more T2s.

Any advice would be awesome!

Not even close. You would need a 166+ to have a legit chance at UMN.

You really ought to retake the LSAT to open up your options.

170+ gives you a shot at NU. Median at Illinois, what ever that is, 165 or somthing, gives you pretty legit shot there.

I did, didn't get in. I'm considering whether to retake or go to Loyola and try to transfer if my grades are steady.

I decided to apply to law school a month before taking the LSAT so my only studying was a Manhattan prep book. I don't know if I'd do any better the second time around though even if I took a prep class. I'm leaning towards Loyola/transfer.

Thoughts?

Conventional TLS wisdom is that you very likely will not have the grades to transfer. "Steady" isnt close to good enough.

to transfer into the T14 you need:
-top 10-15% at T1, top 5-10% for CCN
-top 5-10% at a T2, top 5% for CCN
-top 1-2% at a T3/T4

To transfer into the T1 you need:
-top 10-20% at a T2
-top 5-10% at T3
-top 5% at T4

Only studying for 1 month for the LSAT, a test that is more important than 4 years of undergrad, is extremely short sighted.

Your best course of action is to retake in June/Oct.

Retake. Don't go thinking to transfer. There's only a 10% chance you'll be top 10%. Would you put 150k on Red at a roulette wheel in Vegas?

Assuming you're not URM - no shot at any T1.

There is a 80-90% chance you won't have the grades to transfer. Don't plan on transferring.

Retake or find another market you are interested in applying for. Or both. Chicago is so effing saturated that if you don't go to a T14 it is almost impossible to get a legal job there.

Don't be fixated on the t1 designation- it is meaningless. Look at employment data instead. Your best bet will be to retake, but failing that you'll want to go somewhere, in an area you are comfortable living, for free.
