If...Non URM
3.3 LSAC GPA
148 first LSAT
152 second LSAT
170 third LSAT
Where should I apply in California? Do I even have a chance at getting money from any respectable school at all?

depends on your definition of respectable. What are your plans post graduation (big law, pi, etc)? Where in CA do you want to practice? Or do you not have a preference
congrats on increasing your LSAT

Money isn't looking likely... at least no at what TLS might call a "respectable" school in CA

I want to to work for inner city nonprofits while entertaining the thought of starting up an office. Immigration law by the way. Respectable in terms of prestige and job marketability if and when I dive in the job market swimming pool.

Does anyone have info on immigration law? I know it's not the most exciting or prestigious, but I feel like it could be interesting. How are the pay/job prospects?

Also OP, with your numbers, I'd say Davis, Hastings, UCI, or a lower school w/ money. You could try to ED at UCLA/USC (or would he/she have any shot regular?)

Don't go to UCI, OP.

As far as the major markets go, LA and the Bay Area are among the worst places to practice, if for nothing else -- tax reasons.

OP is good everywhere in CA below UCLA/USC and those two may bite.
(speaking from experience...I consider my UCLA WL a YP)

I bet you don't know Dr. Dre apart from headphones and Eminem.
Dr. Dre says California is crap, especially the hip hop. Why do you think Detox is not coming out? Yeah he loved california in the 90s, but that was 20 years ago.

Is that his new version of the california trifecta e.g. swap meets, sticky green and bad traffic? I'll take it.
Edit: /threadjack
OP you probably won't get money at any great schools because you're a splitter. Please keep that in mind. Its awful, I know.

The lowest ranked schools will give you the highest scholarships. Like, Santa Clara/Loyola. Since you want a low-paying immigration nonprofit gig you might be OK going to one of those schools for free (and if you can live at home that would be even better) as long as you know how to hustle. Having previous nonprofit/social services experience will help you.

I would not go to any school in CA with those numbers. I would aim for NU, Michigan, and UVA and then use my ties to CA to make my way back there. On a cursory glance Michigan's lrap seems pretty good, not sure about NU or UVA.
Good luck and major congrats on the LSAT jump! You'll have some good options, make sure you come back and tell other people your story and inspire them to retake!

I don't know, wasn't USC throwing money at 167s? Obviously OPs GPA is lacking, but he could get some money for sure!

Taxes are the same in LA and SF Bay as the rest of CA (which is still better than NYC).

At least NYC's economy is better than California. It's government is also better. Too much bureaucracy and redtape in california.
