I am seeking advice and opinions on the extent to which following criminal issues (both dismissed) will impact my Louisiana Law School applications.

1) Pulled over for speeding in 2010. The officer found a piece of drug paraphernalia in my vehicle and cited me for speeding and possesion of drug paraphernalia. The pipe did not belong to me (I forgot that it had been left in my vehicle). The paraphernalia citation was dissmissed before arraignement , and I paid a fine for the speeding citation ONLY (I cant remember if I plead guilty or no contest to speeding- I never appeared in any court).

2) Pulled over for speeding in 2011. The officer requested a field sobriety test and I refused so I was immediately arrested on suspicion of OWI. After arraignment, the OWI charge was dismissed on the day of trial (no evidence), and I plead no contest to the speeding citation.

TRUST ME...these were lessons learned and I seriously regret my behavior.

My question is, how will these issues impact my applications? Will I be denied scholarships or even admission for this? Any advice on how best to disclose?

LSAT:172
UGPA: 3.1 (Business Management)
2+ years full time work experience, community involvement

Tulane has admitted a convicted murderer, so I hardly think you'll have any problems due to your criminal dismissals.

you refused the breathalyzer and got the charge dismissed. I thought once you refuse its basically the same as admitting to driving drunk. Or when you get pulled over and you know you gonna blow numbers is the best choice always to refuse the test and take you chances, I'm curious.

edit: o i just noticed you refused the field sobriety test not a breathalyzer. Were you not given a blood test or forced to take a breathalyzer once you were detained?

is there a reason you're only considering these schools. You have a solid shot at the lower T-14 with those numbers.

ok well im curious in a purely academic sense, so if anyone wants to PM me any information on this I am curious. Didn't mean to create a potential conflict.

Champagne, I wont be applying until this fall and may consider adding a few schools to the list, but I know I want to practice in Louisiana and feel like LSU and Tulane are the best bets are far as potential scholarship money.

Lawhopeful, strictly for academic purposes: I was asked to take a breathalyzer after arrest and refused it. I dont know what this means in the application of the law, but the OWI charge was definitely dismissed.

I don't think it would hurt you. I know someone with a similar situation. He just wrote a statement stating the charges that were brought against him and the date that all charges were dismissed. Some schools may ask for you to provided court documentation of the case dismissals.

Sounds good, just wanted to make sure you were aware you are competitive for the T14

And I agree. As long as you don't try to hide the charges, Louisiana schools would not only admit you, but probably offer you full-tuition based off of your LSAT score alone.
