I have a 169 LSAT, that I am hoping to raise to 170-plus by June.............and a sub 3.0 gpa. You hear about people with upward grade trends? Do you think upward trends are given much weight by admissions committees?
If so, would a 3-semester trend of a 4.0, be considered an upward trend OR is it more people that have top grades for 2-3 years that is considered an upward trend? Would you say 3 semesters was sufficient for an upward trend?

Upward trends might mean a teeny, tiny bit of something, but only if all other things are equal. And they never are.
Just focus on your retake and excel there.

I mean it's a good thing yeah but it's not going to overcome a middling overall GPA.

If you're being compared against someone who has the same stats without the upward trend, then it matters. Better than a downward trend. But you're still going to perform at about to your numbers.
