4.13 LSAC GPA with a 4.27 in my major
171 LSAT
Strong work and volunteer experience
Non-URM

What are my chances at Harvard if I apply on the first day that applications can be submitted?

Worth throwing a shot at it. 171 is a bit low for H but with that GPA you've got a decent shot. Make sure to blanket the entire T14, of course.

How much did you study for the LSAT? What were you PT'ing at? You should probably retake.

Also, just enter your numbers at mylsn.info

I know it sucks to hear, but you should retake. Three extra points on the LSAT would almost guarantee you HYS. Right now you'll probably get into Harvard, but it's not for sure.

Kill the LSAT so you're not reverse splitting the medians and you'd be an auto-admit.

Coin toss at Harvard between Accept and Waitlist. I'd be surprised if you were flat out rejected. Same with Columbia. You are safe at Chicago and below with $$$.

So would it be safe to say that I have about a 50% chance of being accepted?

Concerning the LSAT, I studied for 3.5 month and I think that I may be able to improve, although I'm not sure if I can exceed 173.

If you won't be upset attending Chicago or lower with money, then don't retake. If you want to solidify H and open up Yale, 2 more points would do it.

Yeah, this. I'd probably retake, but I could understand why you wouldn't. You'll have great options, but I think HYS become a lock with another 2-3 points.

Thanks for the advice.

I plan on retaking, as I think that I can improve my score by at least a few points, but I think it's unlikely that my score will drop.

Best of luck. Full schollys at lower T14 and acceptances at CCN is nothing scoff at even if HYS doesn't work out for you.

with grades like that, unless you have some insane e.c's

YS : rejection
H : Waitlist/acceptance
CCN : in at 2/3 most likely
Berk-virginia : In, possibly some money
Mich-cornell : Prob get invited for a Darrow, and pretty much great money!

Enjoy Law school =]

Does YS mean Yale and Stanford?

I'm above both medians at the latter, so does that mean that e.c.'s are weighted extremely heavily there? I understand that they play a larger role at Stanford than at most schools, but with my current stats I thought that I'd have a decent chance without insane e.c.'s.

Not to make this thread about you, but this really isn't a good reason not to retake, wert. As an LSAT instructor, I'm telling you emphatically that the idea that you need untouched material to make further gains is flat-out wrong. I'm happy to give you more advice once my exams are over if you want it.

OP, definitely retake. There's no downside.

Also I'm a believer that when you apply is somewhat overstated in importance, but we are rapidly reaching the point where that is no longer the case. Applying much later than this could start having a material effect.
I'm planning to apply the first day applications for next cycle open up.

Ha I knew someone would say that. I've already retaken once (170--171) and to be perfectly honest I feel like my range is pretty darn indicative of my abilities. I studied basically full time for both of those tests. If I was to retake is would only be because slight variations mean I could get a 172 or 173. (I pretty much get -8 to -12 every time.) Also, I have a really crap job situation right now so there is some opportunity cost to waiting another year.

That said, if my cycle doesn't go the way I hoped I may be PMing you closer to the June test.
Just trying to keep you honest.

Best of luck this cycle, and definitely PM me down the line if things don't go the way you'd like.
