169, 3.84 GPA

So I am applying across the T-14 minus HYS CC. Applying to regional schools as well, maybe I can get a full ride scholarship there, which would then be hard to turn down.

Does it make sense to even submit to NYU? Have a waiver to all the others thanks to TFA service... Should I ask for one to NYU? Should I apply there? PI is the area of interest I have.

Edit:
While I have a post up. Should I submit my Michigan and Penn apps now. Then send in a "why x" later (if it all... I am not set on writing those statements, because I am having a hard time being genuine)

It's definitely worth applying to NYU. On average, applicants with your numbers have a ~30% chance at NYU; here's how people with your numbers have done in recent cycles (most competitive cycle removed, since apps have declined so much): http://myLSN.info/vcd3os. It is late in the cycle, though, so it's possible that your odds would be lower.

A 169 really is the most painful good score, I think. Just one more point would make a big difference: http://myLSN.info/b0dlbi. (But with the precipitous decline in apps, perhaps 169 will be the new 170.)

Why not retake? A 172 opens up Columbia and Chicago and could deliver huge money in the lower T14: http://myLSN.info/5qxvad.

I agree with all of the above, but even if you don't retake I would apply to Columbia and Chicago to ride the WL.

I feel you about the 169 being a killer number... 170 is the magic number. Not sure how good I feel about doing the LSAT again. Probably wait till the cycle is done. Busted my ass 4 hours a day for 3.5 months doing LSAT study. My lsatqa average was 169.4 with a high of 172 (x3 times), so I fell right on my average. Plus, I was averaging a 169 for the last 4-5 weeks... so I might have maxed out there at the 170 hump. But then again, on any given day, I could do better, just the odds aren't in my favor.

Yeah, I suppose it is worth it to apply there, worth it to open as many doors as possible.

Anyone have any luck getting waivers from CCN?

Any thoughts on the need for "why x" essay to M and P?

You don't have great odds at CCN, but you will either be accepted or WL at NYU and some applicants have gotten into Chicago with similar numbers as you. If you want to apply this cycle, I would see if CCN pans out or if you get into MVBP with scholarship. If not, consider retaking in June and reapplying next year.

Always write a Why X essay if you have reasons to give.

Fair enough. Just wanted to shoot the shit with people from the December waiters thread... but that's locked now. Maybe a mod can transfer it to another forum, Law School Admission Questions, fits there better.

Thanks Doorkeeper and all for the advice. A little surprised on your thoughts of my NYU chances at being wait listed or accepted, I am not confident. Columbia and NYU said a waiver will be sent automatically if I meet requirements, Chicago gave it to me outright.

And yep, I gotta have reasons to write "why x." I don't have any. I'll try to fish for some.
