CUNY Law with a 148?

Well I just got my score of 148. So that knocks just about every school off my list, except CUNY. I'm from NYC with an interest in PI so its definitely a school I would attend. My numbers are 3.39/148. Should I give it this one shot? Thanks guys.

I should add that I have internships at both Cornell medical university and with the NYPD detective squad.

I would really rather not wait an entire year. I've already made the decision to cut out all my other schools and considering CUNY was one of my top choices I figure I should give it a shot.

No harm in trying (other than the fee's). If you're a URM, you'd probably be accepted into the pipeline program, but that takes a year also...Good luck!

If they know that CUNY is the only school i'm applying to, does that help my chances? How about a LOCI right away?

Don't think it helps. Guess you can try and blow them away with your personal statement and resume. Although an NYPD internship may hurt you more than it helps you at a place like CUNY. Medians are 155 LSAT and 3.31 GPA so its a long shot...sorry to say.

OP don't fall for CUNY's marketing as a PI haven. I have a friend who is a 1L there and went there for that reason and is now considering dropping out.
Check LST and you'll see you are twice as likely to be underemployed as you are to work in PI

CUNY cuts off at 150...check their stats on LSAC (ABA prof). They won't even look -Sorry. Also, Ruth Bader Ginsburg has endorsed CUNY (quoted on TLS's profile here as well as all over teh internets) so to anyone who calls it SHITE, fine, go into debt. Its employment stats are great considering its rank/tuition ($12k in state!). Also, awesome new building in Long Island City (one stop from manhattan) and, as a native New Yorker, I can tell you that the reputation is decent for public interest/government work. And just like any other law school, one has to get good grades to get the better job.

Actually, there are some law schools where people with median and even far below median grades do pretty damn well.

most people with a pulse and some discipline can do better than a 148. if you cant, consider another profession

This isn't necessary and will really discourage the OP. TLS can be a bubble sometimes. It takes some longer than others to crack even the 150 threshold. Its possible he's been studying for awhile and just cracked or wasn't really prepared. OP check the LSAT Prep forum if you need further advice.

it consistently amazes me that the TLS forums are such a watering hole for awful people. no wonder lawyers get such a bad rep.

There are unfortunately some characters here who like to put people down - but the substance of their advice is still sound. There really is no other answer than to retake. A 149 is unacceptable. If you are PI focused it will be important to minimize your debt as much as possible.

Some people on the internet can be pretty harsh and even mean, but harsh is probably what you need to hear. A 148 is not a good LSAT, and no law school worth spending your money at is going to accept a 148. CUNY is a truly awful school with terrible job prospects. Check out the data:

Only a little more than 1/3 of grads were employed in full-time, permanent jobs as a lawyer. Of that 1/3, how many of those jobs do you think are any good (meaning high paying or at least interesting work)? Not many. Over 10% of the class is working in school-funded jobs, and only 22% answered the salary survey, which is pretty terrible.
Your most likely outcome at CUNY is a lack of employment as a lawyer, and even if you do get a lawyering job, it will probably be a pretty poor one. Do NOT go. If you want to be a lawyer, you need to study hard and retake.

Yeah, people can be A holes here. But don't interpret it as "LOLZ I'M SO MUCH SMARTER AND GONNA MAKE SO MUCH MORE MONEY THAN YOU" and realize that what people are saying could help you avoid potentially an extremely poor decision for your future.
If you have never been to Law School Transparency, you should definitely look it. These are the best available statistics for job prospects at various schools. Here's the page for CUNY.

As you can see, 25.2 % of the class of students who graduated in 2011 are unemployed. Another 29.7 % are in short-term temp positions so they may as well be unemployed as well. That's over half the class (54.9 %) essentially without jobs. Only
41 graduates are in long-term positions where bar passage is required. I mean, isn't that why you go to Law School? And of those lucky 41, zero work at firms with more than 26 attorneys. 14 work at tiny ass firms with 2-10 attorneys. The highest reported salaries- earned by just 7 % of the class was "greater than $57,750".
If you can accept those employment prospects then go ahead and apply. It does have very low tuition so at least it's not the scam a lot of these law schools are. Although your LSAT puts you in the territory where you probably won't get in anyways, which I think is a blessing in disguise. So just study really hard for the LSAT. It's a test where you get better with practice so you can definitely improve if you put the work in.
