2.9 GPA, 160 LSAT

I go to a top 30 public engineering school. My major degree is over a 3.0 but my overall GPA received a beating because of required CS and calculus classes. Also, my mom has been in and out of the hospital, requiring me to take care of the home and really stressing me out. Should I write an addendum about this? I'm also a professional dancer, which takes a lot of time out of my schedule.

I'm applying to:
UGA
Georgia State
Fordham
George Washington
UNC Chapel Hill
Boston College
Boston University
William and Mary

I have great LORs and my personal statement is about my dance career.

You go to a top 30 public engineering school, but are you going to graduate with an engineering degree? First of all, everyone knows that a 3.0 engineering GPA is a great GPA and attorneyss with a technical engineering background have a much pleasanter life than the rest of that. With that in mind, I would recommend going and doing some engineering work for a couple of years before you apply.

Yes.

You may have to set your sights a little lower for schools though. What state do you live in/do you want to work?

Are you URM? If not, I'm incredibly confused at your list of schools.

Youre not getting into any of those schools except maybe Georgia State.

Retake

This, UGA and G-State are the only attainable schools here if you are not a URM. I don't know those schools, but I know the rest, and they will hardly give you a look. You'll need to retake with a much higher LSAT to even have a chance.

This, UGA Mercer and maybe G-State, if you have strong softs, are the only attainable schools here if you are not a URM. I don't know those schools, but I know the rest, and they will hardly give you a look. You'll need to retake with a much higher LSAT to even have a chance.

BU- no chance below 25th in both
BC- same
GW- same
fordham- same
W&M- below 25th in GPA at 25th in LSAT
Georgia st- below 25th in both
Georgia- Below median on LSAT, well below 25th in GPA
UNC- below median LSAT well below 25th in GPA

If you are a URM I assume you would have listed it so.....

Basically you likely have no shot at any of these, maybe a tiny chance at UGA or UNC. Unless you have AMAZING softs (cured a disease, started a major charity, relative donated 7-8 figures to school) you should get a job and retake.

Hi guys, sorry I haven't responded.

I'm not a URM, but I am Indian. I am a professional Indian classical dancer and have done tours while still in school- which is mostly why my GPA is so low.

I am currently applying to jobs and seeing how this turns out- thanks for the input though! The average GPA at my school (according to LSAC) is a 3.1- so I guess I'm in that range.

We'll see!

Don't go to law school or retake for a 170+ and go to northwestern after you get work experience

I think you need to either retake the LSAT or drastically alter your expectations or both.
Your dance career will be a minor soft. Not only will schools not acknowledge that your GPA is low because of touring, they might fault you for it (there are plenty of Div I athletes, professional actors/singers/dancers/etc who are applying to law school whose grades did NOT take a hit, in the face of their ridiculous schedules.)
Unfortunately I have to echo others in this thread: Georgia State is a maybe, the rest are just not reasonable choices.

Don't go to any of these without substantial scholarships.

The OP has no shot at even getting into most of these schools, no way any scholarship money is available. I assume you really mean...don't go to law school.

Though if you are dead-set on going to law school, TITCR:

You need a better LSAT. Yes, your GPA is decent for engineering school and you'll get some sympathy from adcomms about your GPA, but its still a numbers game. You're unlikely to get into any of those schools, and they'd be extremely expensive even if you did. You need to go get some WE, get your LSAT up 10 points, and try again if you so desire.
