3.81/172 (2013-14 applicant)

Hey all -

I'm a junior starting to look at law schools, and I was wondering if my list was realistic/if I could be chanced. I'm doing a non-US affiliated study abroad in the spring, so my stats are static. I have strong softs and come from a small, not terribly prestigious LAC in the South. I've been following the statistical decline in the applicant pool, which has caused me to take applying to the CCNs more seriously. My ideal school at this point in the process is Chicago - and I always have the option of doing the 14-15 cycle and bringing my numbers up.

I'm looking at CCN at as my reaches, Virginia, Michigan and Berkeley as my competitive schools, and Duke, Cornell, and UCLA as safeties. I am off here?

Thanks for the help!

I posted this because I've gotten wildly divergent reads from every different site I've used. Some have put the CCNs around 80%; other around 20% or so. I'm just looking for another evaluative opinion from a group of individuals with familiarity with the process.

You're on target. You should apply to HYS if you can get your parents to pay for your law school apps.

No shame in showering the whole T14 with a 172.

I just got Columbia with the same LSAT and a lesser GPA. ED, but it was probably about a coin flip RD anyway.

Probably in at everywhere below HYS. Very small chance at H but you could get waitlisted there. No shot at Y or S. Enjoy one of CCN or a lot of money at another T14.

Disagree with this. People with much lower numbers get Stanford all the time. And OP's numbers show a good shot at Harvard. Little chance at Yale probably.

Best advice for you if you are only a junior is work your ass off to get your gpa up. The difference between applying 3.9/172 and 3.81/172 is pretty big and could be the difference at H. CCN your looking pretty good as you stand. Also, did you feel like the 172 was the best you could do? Bc if you left even a couple points on the table and are confident you wouldn't score lower, a retake wouldn't be the worst thing in the world and could really help you out getting into HYS. You still have a good amount of time before you apply, and you are right on the cusp of HYS so getting those numbers up even just a little bit would be huge- good luck!!!

Might want to add "enjoy myLSN.info" to that thread. I found it more useful than LSN, because it aggregates decisions, and gives you a percentage.

Gets Stanford all the time, little shot at H. Wtf? Stanford has a tiny class size and can pick up lower numbers with incredible softs; by no means does this mean people "get in all the time" with lower numbers.

Small shot at H, out at YS.

I had the exact same numbers and I'm at NYU sticker.

Y = didn't apply
H = waitlist --> rejected in September (lol)
S = reject
Co = ED --> deferred --> withdrew
Chi = waitlist --> withdrew

Most people with similar numbers get Columbia RD with little trouble, though, so I think you'll do just fine. HYS will be unlikely unless you have sick softs.
