Leave the GPA and just try typing in a few higher LSAT scores. A few points can make a BIG difference.

As for schools, I am sort of in a bind as is anyone that doesn't score 170+. Since I am interested in practicing in SoCal, UCLA and USC are most appealing. Also, what are your thoughts on UCLA and USC sticker vs. full-rides at Pepp, Loyola or Chapman.

You need a 167+ for USC and UCLA. You have a 0% chance of getting into either of them with a 162.

You probably aren't looking at a full ride from Pepperdine. You will get full rides to Loyola and Chapman, but you shouldn't take them. The best school in CA you can get into right now is UC Davis but that is a lot of debt for a 55% chance of employment chances.

I don't think full rides are as plentiful and easy to get as people make them out to be on this site. Just being competitive for admission at one school doesn't mean you would automatically get a full ride to a school that is ranked a tier lower. Also UCLA and USC at sticker is terrifying to me, only 1/3 gets biglaw and only 2/3 of the class even becomes a lawyer from these schools. Finally, if OP really wants California he needs to go to a non T14 school on a huge scholarship or go to a T14 and come back after school. Both these options neccessatate a retake.

UCLA Median: 168 3.77

USC Median : 168 3.64

How exactly does he have a shot at either of these two? I guess there is an off chance he gets waitlisted, but that probably won't happen.

And someone who is above the GPA median + an LSAT in the 160s does not have a 0% shot at a T20. More like 20-25% shot....

OP the best school you have a good shot at is UMN. Probably 50/50.

Gator_law has objectively given some of the worst advice in this forum. Nothing against him and I wish him the best of luck in whatever it is he wants to do in life, but his numbers have consistently been off and his school suggestions are directly contradictory to LSN.

OP, if you want a solid resource, Nova is very knowledgeable

You are likely to be waitlisted at UCLA, but I'd be shocked if you were flat out rejected. USC, on the other hand, does not waitlist hardly any applicants with your numbers, so you are looking at 20-30% chance admit and 70-80% reject.

One or two more points would help your cause immensely, however, you may strike out with these two. Don't go to any other school in CA with a 3.86. Retake if you don't get UCLA/USC.

As Nova said, UMN is extremely favorable towards your numbers and is the best school to which you are almost guaranteed admission. But, only 4% of their grads end up in CA.

If you want a decent job in California, 2-3 more points will give you your choice of UCLA/USC. Not to mention a 166+ will get you a look at a few schools in the T14.

If you're open to waiting until June and reapplying next cycle, I think you should do that. If you can study really hard until then and get a great LSAT score you can maybe get some money at UCLA or USC. Can you live at home while going to law school? If so, I don't think its worth it for you to go to a T14 at sticker.

You have a very low chance at schools in and around the T14 (15-25%).

You really should retake your LSAT. Aim for a 170 and you'll be T14 secure with scholarship money.

Your GPA is good. Don't waste it. Retake.
