Non-AA URM, 160/3.5 GPA, 2 Years Banking

Post by WarrinBuffet » Sat Nov 24, 2012 5:32 pm

Hey All,

As the the topic states, here are my stats:

160 LSAT
~3.5 gpa from Ivy League (econ major)
2 Years banking/finance experience by the time Fall 2013 starts
Non-URM hispanic (south america)

Also, first person to go to college in my family. Should I re-take in February to try and raise my score a bit, or am I in a decent position for most top 20ish schools? Thanks in advance!

Why should I wait next year until applying (Fall 2014)?

That's why ^^. And a February score is too late in the cycle unless you *really* bring that LSAT score up (I'm talking getting around a 170 to make you competitive with your GPA).

Edit- Just caught that OP isn't in one of the specifically defined URM categories. I have no idea how being South American would affect OP's chances at the T14.

With a 160, you're lucky if you get into the bottom half of the top 14 schools.
He is not an AA. Not even a URM. Probably needs a 170 to make law school worthwhile.

I'm confused... 160 LSAT, 3.5 GPA, non-URM? How is this competitive at all for the T-14? Those numbers will get you into schools ranked 40 and below with no or small scholarships...

Not necessarily. Those were my numbers exactly. I got into some schools ranked 20-25 and I had no interesting softs to speak of. However, I wasn't given money at those schools and chose to attend a lower ranked school with a substantial scholarship.

If you want any money at a school in the 20s, a retake is probably a good idea. (I wouldn't advise attending a school in the 20s without a scholarship.)
