I heard a rumor that NYU was giving some veteran love.

yes i would rather go to columbia sticker than attend a lower T-14 with $ - and i don't expect to get a lot of $ anyway cuz of my sub-par LSAT score. and i should be able to get some fin aid

it's pretty likely you'll get money from lower T14's with your stats

if you are absolutely dead-set on being in NYC/at Columbia, I guess ED'ing wouldn't be a bad idea. But you will definitely be leaving a good amount of money on the table if you are accepted.

Don't ED to Columbia unless you're unwilling to go somewhere else.
You're always better off keeping your options open and negotiating.

very small sample, but seems like you'd have a decent shot to get accepted (albeit with no money)

Getting into any school at sticker price outside HYS doesn't mean your life is way better than before you got in.

yeah i'm trying to see how much of a boost i would get from ED'ing.
id like to attend a school that could give me the best employment prospects possible, and since HYS are out the window, i'm focusing on CCN. money is less of a concern for me...
i'm just worried that i might not land any of CCN, so i'm wondering if i should ED to one of them. i like columbia a lot better than the other two, so columbia.

i think most on TLS would say that the freedom you get from having less debt outweighs the benefit from the increased employment opportunities you get from Columbia versus, say, Penn or Michigan

This could be a unique scenario. If 1) HYS isn't a possibility 2) you're not footing the bill and 3) you have a strong preference for Columbia, EDing might be warranted. I really truly believe that most applicants are better off applying RD and going through the hellish waitlist process. It seems awful when you're a 0L, but money saved is money saved, and I'm sure your parents (or your personal checkbook), unless they are astoundingly wealthy, would appreciate it.
Moreover, the financial aid packages for non HYS schools vary wildly. They do not follow rankings and do not all account for need and merit in the same ways. Because financial aid is more of a black box than admission, you're better off applying broadly and choosing once you have concrete options. You might not expect aid form CCN and receive it anyway. You might be (based on numbers) a strong candidate for MVBP and find yourself waitlisted or without aid. I really think TLS conventional wisdom is pisspoor at explaining this, so I'm sorry if I'm beating a dead horse at this point.
