You're probably in with an ED to NYU but you also have a good shot at money at UVA on down. I probably wouldn't ED if I were you.

+1. I wouldn't ED.

Assuming that I know I want to be in New York (and emphatically not Virginia), why not ED?

What about Penn?

Edited for RC fail.

I would ED tonight at either Columbia or NYU. I know I have two weeks until the complete deadline, but I want to leave plenty of time to let LSAC prepare and send my report.

Crowing, given what you've said, here's another question: If I were to ED to Columbia and apply RD to NYU, would it hurt my chances at NYU? That is, is there a strategic reason to ED NYU?

If you are set on NYC, might as well ED to one of those two, can only help your chances- I would go Columbia, but thats just me have you visited either?

If you ED, no chance of scholarship. Don't ED.

I had your numbers, RD, got NYU and Chi with scholarships (withdrew from Columbia immediately because I'm a PI kid and there's no place better than NYU--regret it, missed chance to negotiate more money). Indigomachine also had similar numbers, NYU with scholarship.

That being said, I remember this being a nerve racking process, so do what you think is best. In this cycle, I think you're set if you ED to NYU. But why give up 60-75k? You'll get in RD.

Check lawschoolnumbers if you haven't already.

Well, if you mean you're dead set on going to LS in NY then I guess you should ED. But if you just want to make it there after graduation, I believe you'd still have a good shot from a school like UVA, Michigan, or Duke. I'm not totally sure about that though so somebody more qualified should probably answer that. I'm not set on a particular market so lower T-14 + $ is preferable to me even over CCN, especially because "CCN" is a fairly arbitrary and meaningless designation. But I'm not totally sure about your situation.

As for the ED CLS vs. NYU thing, as far as I've seen from LSN data, CLS gives virtually no ED boost and NYU gives a small one. Also, NYU is definitely easier to get into than CLS. But it's hard to say exactly what the chances for an ED acceptance with your numbers are because there is so little data to reference with similar numbers to you. But for sure your chance at NYU RD is much better than CLS RD.

I haven't ever been as I live on the other side of the country, but I would strongly prefer Columbia—even though I'm kind of a bleeding heart PI sort. I think I'm gonna go on a long bike ride, read whatever new comments there are here, and take the plunge, whatever that is.

Not trying to hijack your thread (as I do just that lol) but also having a 170 and having a gpa about 0.1 below OP's 3.77 (3.6x), could I expect similiar results? Or is that 0.1 GPA increase pretty drastic?

Heh, you sound kinda like me. Columbia has been my dream institution since my HS days. I'm at 3.46/173 so I also wrestled with where to ED (if at all) for quite some time this fall. Ultimately, I decided to ED Penn (even though CLS is my #1) because I just didn't think CLS was a realistic goal, ED or not, and I preferred Penn to NYU. But I doubt I would ED with your numbers because your GPA makes you a lot more likely to get scholarship money than me. I'm probably not getting money anywhere in the T-14 with my GPA, so I didn't feel like I was sacrificing too much by EDing.

Yikes. Dude. I'm totally sorry. I missed the "almost" before the 3.9.

That's a much tougher RD. If you want to do PI, really look at LRAPs in addition to scholarships and chances when making your decision. LRAP matters. Big time.

Feel like a jerk now...

It is sort of a big difference. But it can be tricky predicting in this cycle because I hear 170+ scores are in short supply.

My basic feeling is, if you have the money, throw in an application.
